Title: What is it with these people?!
Post by: mr magoo on 04 March 2011, 20:57
Hi all, hope all's well.

Well I've had my Ed30 for just under three years now, I've loved every minute of it ...

EXCEPT!

... What is it with the other doughnuts on the road? Last night was driving home and some prock in what was either an M3 or a 325 was determined to try to push me off the road. I couldn't get away from him, neither could he get past me as it was a twisty country road, but he was still so close that I couldn't see his headlights in my rear view mirror.  He knew he was being a tasser as as soon as I indicated right to turn in to a side he slammed on, in case I did.

That's only one example of several recently, and I'm honestly not an aggressive driver, I just mind my own business.

Coincidentally, my car failed its first MOT today (third brake light which requires bodyshop work, can't be done till Monday), they've given me a 1-litre (ish) 60 plate Polo.  I drove it for 2 hours tonight on my weekly commute home. Think it's the least stressed I've felt in ages. I just trundled along, not too quick, not too slow.

I'm thinking of buying a BlueMotion!

Sorry for the rant chaps, needed to get it off my chest.

I know what you mean mate....some people see certain cars and think....yeah....I'm gonna have him!  Like they are trying to prove something.....  For me, I take the first opportunity pull over and let em go.  You'll probably end up driving past there steaming undercarriage round the next bend!

Don't know why, but since having the .:R I haven't had ANY races....not even a set of traffic light grand prix!  Gutted :-(

In my 335d I would get a lot of M3 boys or old men in 5 series giving it large...problem was my 335d was chipped and modded, was about 350hp at the wheels and would keep up with everything.  Including a rather annoyed 911 CS4 once ;-)

For me, driving fast or "spiritedly" is a personal experience.  I don't want some nobber goading me into a race/chase or accident.

Just remember one thing.....Natural Selection ;-)  And there are enough trees, ditches and lamposts for all of em.

I'd bet it wasn't an M3, was it an E46 shape?

Either just pull over and let them past, you have nothing to prove.

Paint the bottom of your rear bumper black, remove the edition30 sticky badge and you'll enter the lovely peaceful world of real GTI owners.  We get respect.

Lifes too short to get stressed about over these bellends.

If someone is doing what you described I either play back with them or just ignore them as they are clearly in a rush and Im not. If Im feeling really nice Ill pull over and let them past.

No point losing years off your life over them.

Just slow right down when their so close, they soon get the message. If your suddenly doing 20mph on a 60mph country road they soon see your not interested in playing.

Rather than buy a bluemotion just remove the GTI & edition 30 badge off the back of your car and replace it with a bluemotion one 99% of people won't know what it is when there behind you then.

Thanks all and sorry to rant.

Not sure what flavour of 3 series it was, but I reckon it was about 6 years old if that helps.

I've chilled a bit now

Cheers

Can't say I really get that much agro in the pirelli.  Maybe I'm just moving to fast  / slow  (take your pick) to be a target...

I get the odd halford edition saxo revving at the lights  - 90% of those I just let go but that's about it.  I have occasionally had the odd mk 5 tdi that has just had to go past on the local dual carridgeway bypass but that's not much trauma.

maybe its just me but i never let it go...lol

Probs being 23 is the reason.I see it they just wanna see what your nice motor can do and I am than happy to show people.Used to get a few in the z4 (3.0) and I would glady show then what shes got,had a nice little tussle with one of those abrath fiat 500 things quite nippy around town not bad handling either altho it was wet so i was just coaxing rear end everywhere!

The ones i don't get is they come up behind you, you completly smoke them over a sequence of bends/straigths etc etc..there miles away so you slow down and 3 mins later is up your tailpipe again..This I don't understand its like you just got smoked/had some fun what do you want from me ? :P

Oh yeah I can't stand tailgaters! no matter how much you know the person in front of you never get to close!

Personaly if I saw you in your edtion 30, i'd give it a little go but if i saw you wasn't interested after 10 secs then i'd back off and leave it as that!

await flaming
