Title: Coolant pipe Q
Post by: Horney on 03 March 2011, 21:11
Yo Guys,

Quick Q. The coolant pipe from the side of the head to the Matrix. Is it a reasonably standard bore? I.E. Can I get a length from halfords or a motor factors?

Mine has perished over the winter lay up and it's weeping badly. Need to replace it this weekend but on a stag do so getting to a VW specialist is out of the question.

Cheers!

Nick

The one that comes off the right side of the block that goes to one of the safety valves that go to the matrix, has a larger bore/flange on the block end than the valve end.

I had to bodge replace mine with 1.3 bit o pipe as it had a split in it at the large flange end (oooh er!)

Well it does on a 16v anyway.

No funky valve on my beast it goes straight through to the matrix. Looks the same bore all the way.

The pipe that goes from the red arrow to the valve.  The valve end is a smaller bore.  Plus its got a 90 degree kink in it.

Bear in mind, mines an 8v. I have also have no bias valve. The pipe goes straight from the head into the bulkhead/matrix.

Well, in that case, come back and talk to me when you have a proper race car.

Problem is mate I can't get to a GSF between now and monday morning. Needs to be an autofactor or halfords purchase.

Just re read your first post Nick... I'm pretty sure the size you want will be 16mm (5/8") this is a standard common size, and should be readily available at Halfords, along with the next size up, or down...
