Title: Lowering the Mk5

Whilst changing my brakes i noticed my rear springs have snapped on both sides so im intending on replacing them soon (prior MOT).  I was thinking of just replacing front/back with Coilovers, as id like a lower stance (but not ass to the grass style as its my daily commuter).

Basically im wondering what is a decent size drop that looks good but doesnt cause rubbing or any other issues like that.  I've got 17'' alloys on too, if that makes much difference.

If possible some pictures of your drops would be good, and as a side note im driving the 2.0 TDI, so any good coilover recommendations would be handy.

If it is an everyday car then just fit a good quality lowering spring / shock kit.

hmm, certainly an option.  I guess new springs would be cheaper too :D 

Any good brands to look out for?  Also, what sort of drop looks good but doesnt cause rubbing etc.

eibach sportlines or H&R springs are a great set up for very little out going. 30mm drop is perfect, no worries with speed bumps or anything.

I recently fitted an Eibach Pro Kit, around 15-20mm drop so no issues, except with curbs at the front when parking

I think 25-30mm looks just about right.  And as a bonus it won't give me any issues  :laugh:

How much would it cost me to get a pair of h&r lowering springs fitted at a local garage? what would i expect to pay?

I think my h&r springs cost about 200 then fitting was 150 ish, coupled with the White line anti lift kit the handling was vastly impoved :)
