Title: 2.0 16v ABF oil filter gasket info and others
Post by: justalex81 on 02 March 2011, 20:56
right i've got oil leaking from rocker cover gasket, sump gasket, oil filter housing.

what is involved in changing the sump gasket as there seems to be a large bit of the gearbox in the way.

Rocker cover is inlet manifold off. I'm gonna replace the manifold gaskets while i'm there but is there anything else worth doing while it's off?

what do i need to remove to get to the oil filter housing? i want to replace all oil related gaskets in the area. does anyone have a diagram of the oil filter housing assembly?

Any more info is greatly appreciated!

Sump gasket is best done with the engine cold, if you can, another good trick is to leave the oil draining overnight.

The part of the gearbox unbolts I believe.

Get gaskets from stealers every time. May be slightly more expensive, but you can guarantee an aftermarket one will need to be replaced before very long at all (straight away in a lot of cases). They are simply not a good fit, so just shell out once for that little bit extra

To get that to fit on a 16v you will need to remove the plastic splash guard on the oil pick up tube. Then it will fit fine.

Its purpose is to stop the crank whipping the oil about, robbing you of horsepower and putting air into your oil. (In basic terms)

is all this really necessary for a standard road going vehicle?

i just don't want the engine to leak oil!
