 As we all know you caN get weighted gear change rods from the likes of TSR etc but for about ?30:00 a throw.... having just scrapped a '93 Vento i put the huge weighted rod from that on my '89 Driver and was so impressed i thought i would source one for my GTi.Having tried several breakers in vane i bit the bullet and tried good old VW...........the result is 1 new rod (Vento listing) for............wait for it............?10.85 + Vat making a total of ?12:75 all in and it arrived at 10am this morning...........the part number for you all is P W1HO 711 183...........enjoy

^^ you aren't the first to realise that for once VAG come up with the goods!!! we've said in the past how some people charge an arm and a leg for a basic part, just look how much these go for on ebay then!!!
good on ya for the part number, i can see alot of people ordering these up!

pitty mine is cable change

How does this effect the gear change?
-
the weight makes it drop into the gates easier, it kind of pulls it in, just gives you a more positive flowing gear change. ive got one and i also got a mk3 2l 8v gearbox with lovely long 5th!! which i would definitely recommend!

Is this a swap for the standard 8V gti box? Syncro going on second and interested in the longer 5th. Have an 88 8V..... Could be the answer I am looking for!

drops straight in, although you need to use a 16v clutch pressure plate as the splined shaft is a bigger diameter than the standard 8v box.
-
Thanks for that- will keep an eye out for a decent one. Is the pressure place available from GSF et al?
