Title: Heated Seats - Retrofit *Part No required please*
Post by: Buck on 27 February 2011, 23:59
One of the things my GTD doesn't have is the heated seats -It's an option I would have liked but it was not to be!

Now, I've read that 'all' Golf GTI/GTD seats have the heater elements in them as standard but obviously don't have the controls in the climate unit.

A bit of detective work tonight shows a wire going into the seats that I believe is for the heater elements :) so....

Can anybody tell me how I can check if the wiring is present to the rear of the climate unit and would just need to be connected to a climate unit with the seat heater buttons and presumably coded in VCDS?

No. Definitely not!

There are two sets of wires under my seats. One is for the seatbelt tensioner and the other is for the heater.

Have a look under yours (easier to check by looking from the rear footwell) and report back .....

You must be desperate or cold? lol

The GTDs only have heated seats if you have the luxury pack.

Defo no heating elements in the GTD seats I fitted some to my mk5 and the only wiring is for seat occupancy and the airbag.

They really are beyond the pale. What rubbish. Basically, they could not be bothered.
What you have to do is to go in and get a printed estimate as to how much it would cost for them to fit. This way, you'll get the part numbers!

Trimstar and Auto Audio will install heating elements into your seats, both front and rear!

There may be others closer to you.

Darren would also be a good port of call.

But they will probably just order new seats  :nerd:
Are you going to need a new control unit for it or are the bits already hidden away?

Thanks mike.

I think it is

Once the kids are in bed I'm off to play detective inthe garage - my loan car I had today (whilst mine was having the fog lamp replaced) didn't have the same wires as mine - just the ones for the air bag/tensioner and occupancy sensor so I live in hope!

It looks like Mike beat me to it but he hasn't quoted any prices.

1. backrest heater element - 1K0 963 557 R - £77.34
2. heater element seat - 1K0 963 555 G - £77.34

30. inlay for seat occupied sensor - 5K0 963 553 - £25.02
31. flat contact housing with contact locking mechanism - 1T0 973 119 - £1.97

Plus there will be extra relays, fuses and wiring.

^^ seen that!

I think the cost is going to be quite high to retro this if I have to add in the loom too so need to think about it a little more   and make sure I can work out all thats involved!

I contacted Kufatec about this a while back and they were quite adamant that the heating element was already in the seat as it was more cost effective. Although they might just be saying so I would buy their seat heating harness.

Hold on a sec all......
My dad has just bought a brand new Honda Jazz (mid range). I insisted that he got heated seats for his bad back, which at new were £250+VAT per seat (front only). However, the dealer insisted that he could have heated front seats installed (aftermarket) for £200 each - the dealer had a suitable vehicle available for sale already, if my dad insisted on the optional extra they would have to build a new vehicle etc.

Either the sales chap is understating the heated seats, so he can close the deal, or the aftermarket option may not be as bad originally thought..........?

That's what I'd heard. Need to be brave enough to take a cover (part) off and see if I can see an element or not!

Can anybody take a photo of the connectors that are in the floor under the seat?

Time (or lack of) is the enemy at the minute but hopefully...

It may still be relatively easy? - if I can work out what the looms and connectors will look like and the big if being around the seats already having the elements in them!

Hi, apologies for digging up an old thread!
Did you manage to find out if the seats had elements in them, even if the winter pack wasn't included?
I've noticed the loom is available for 50 Euro's and used climate panels are cheap on eBay.

Cheers

Hi

I didn't confirm 100% but I couldn't see any spare cables and didn't want to start dismantling the seat to check.

Might be worth a look on yours - when I investigated, panels with heated seats and looms were ££££ which made it a no-go

Thanks for getting back to me.  I had a look at my own seat and couldn't see any spare sockets or cables, so I think I will leave it there.  I will keep an eye out for a heated cloth interior on eBay instead and then retrofit that.

Cheers
