I bought a pair of rear drilled/grooved discs from volksbits..... want to fit spigot rings to allow hubcentric fitment, but am unsure if the hub locator dimension is correct on these discs....
i know the hub locator dimension on mk2 golfs is 57.1 mm, and it is the case for the fronts, but as for the rears, ive measured it as being at least 5mm smaller....
my question is: is this the same for all mk2's, what should the hub locator dimension on rear discs be? or have i bought wrong discs?

More to the point. Why did you waste your money on pointless drilled and groved rear brake discs?

57.1 same as the front and every other Golf.
Drilled and grooved are a waste of time anyway.

should the rears also be 57.1mm?

Yes.
Rear discs don't do too much, pretty much just there to keep the car in a straight line under braking/ as a parking brake.
I'd take them back as they should be 57.1 as you rightly pointed out, get OEM ones. However, drilled and grooved front brake discs made a difference on mine. Unless you really want them to match the front ones in an OCD stylee, but you'll still need a 57.1 centre bore.

Why would they be different, it would make swapping wheels front to back interesting.

I would still by drilled and grooved disks as they look cool.. sometimes form is better than function
