Title: Unleaded,Optimax,Leaded
Post by: Harooshum on 02 September 2003, 21:36
The 16v IS designed to run on unleaded, although probably better to use leaded, but there should be no faults running continuously unleaded. I ALWAYS use optimax with no probs. Is it the best commercial octane fuel then?

Could someone please reply to this with certified info as I would like to know 100%

Also, from experience, what brand and grade of engine oil is best 4the 16v???

cheers, H.

The k-jet engines (including 16v) are designed to run on super unleaded ( 98 RON ) NOT leaded fuel. The best fuel to use is optimax ( 98 RON ) or super unleaded ( 97 RON ) . The best oil to use in my opinion ( and from experience ) is quantum gold , you can get this from VW. It is not too thin but is fully synthetic.

i have to agree to the fuel side but kr engines like a thicker oil on start up >quantum yes but silver every time gold is just to thin and silver is what VW recommends .

I've used gold on several valvers with no problems! silver is adequate though if you want to save a few quid.
Title: Lube for 16v

Fine for the optimax, but surely using performance lubricants such as Magnatec or Mobil 1 of the right thickness grade is better than standard silver or gold??

After all, the performance ones claim to use better researching and development, therefore a more effective product. innit?

I really need to put my mind to rest about the best Lubes.

The top synthetics like mobil 1 etc are too thin for older engines. Quantum Gold is a fully synthetic oil but it is not as thin.
