Probably because they have had to replace so many faulty ones.

It's always been around 4 months wait.
Bet you can't wait.
-
Congratulations. I hope you enjoy it, and you don't have too much longer to wait.
I ordered my GTD in mid Nov, and the dealer was hopeful of an April delivery..........unfortunately not. Earlier this week, the dealer told me my build week is 26, with expected delivery in July. I didn't order DSG, so that's not the reason for my long waiting period - likely to be 8 months from order to delivery, assuming the build week doesn't get pushed back.
(5dr Carbon Grey, 18" Charleston Shadows, Xenons, Parking Sensors, Lux Pack, RCD510 + Dynaudio).

Dealer or broker?

Main dealer.

Bet you can't wait.
Hopefully it will be available for the Easter holiday period to get some miles on the clock.

Just asking as brokers often can't fulfil their promises.
Dealers are sometimes a bit naughty too and they 'pretend' to order your car but don't actually have any build slots for a few months.
It's happened before...

Good point, I'm sure they perform a balancing act with allocations between customers who will/can wait, and those who wont/can't.

ordered mine september.... build week 14... am i having my leg lifted or what?
-
Anything over 6 months then your dealer has shafted you.
If it's a broker then it's your own fault.

It's very difficult to plan ahead with these lead times. My old car will almost certainly need an MOT and Tax disc before new one arrives.

~6-7 month seems the norm from what i have read for orders placed since october 2009 unless its a car in the system that gets modified.

surely the dealership can help you out with the MOT? and just make sure you take your tax disc off when you trade in and claim the remainder back.
-
From what I remember my dealer gave me a fixed trade in based on 16 weeks.
Any more was their loss.

Yeah I'm sure I will be able to sort something out.

Get them to take your car in as agreed and put you in a loaner for a few weeks - did it for me - a few weeks of free motoring :)

Ordered my GTI with DSG just before Christmas 2010 and will be picking it up in 2 weeks  not bad hey! I was lucky though as the dealer was able to amend a cancelled order to my spec.

Ordered mine 13th Dec 2009, car arrived 12 weeks later at dealer. Delivered to me 1 week after this. Total 13 weeks.
Cancelled order which I was able to amend spec to my liking.

Hi All,
Similar position to you Lowdown, order placed November and build week 14, anticipated deliverymid-April.
As Buck says, I'd enquire about the courtesy car - VW will provide this 16 weeks from order date until delivery, I've got mine coming March 14th. Might be an option to save you taxing / MOT'ing your old car?
Cheers

^^ +1
The valuation on trade in should be for 16 weeks. Any decent dealer will offer a loan car if you ask.
