i've found a magnex back box for sale thats for a 16v but my car is a 1.8 8v driver, do you think it could be fitted with a pipe reducer easy enough?
If it needs fettling i know someone that will do it but just wanted to know if its too much hassle, its a bargain price so dont want to lose out!
thanks

I dont see any reason why it wont! At the end of the day anything can be fitted with the right reducer, and the bore will be bigger than your standard pipe i reckon so a reducer should do the trick!
-
Yes it will fit with a reducer all ok.
-
So it turns out the backbox was a twin upswept :( I wanted a twin straight!
So what would my car sound like if I took the centre box out? I want a raspy sound with the occassional pop

This is my Magnex cat-back system:

And here is Kell's Magnex cat-back with middle silencer removed:

t.b.h your going to need to modify the middle box as you wont fit the back box with just a reducer as the angles will be out!
best option is fir a 16v middle box and reduce it from the back of the cat (it's handy as the mk3 uses a connector pipe on the rear of the cat which you swap for the 16v version and it will all bolt up ok)

I'm not goin to get it as it's a twin upswept. Cheers for the vids!
I've decided I'm going to just keep standard backbox as the baffles are going and it sounds good but remove the mid box. Will this give me the raspy noise I want? I'm on a very small budget at the moment so until I get enough money for a custom system I want to spend as little as possible!
Was just going to drill a hole in my mid box! Lol

Well that's just daft
Removing the middle box will give you a little more noise, removing the cat will make it a bit more raspy.

All that will do is it will sound like it is blowing.
-
And fail an MoT and give the occupants carbon monoxide poisoning!
I expect you only said it 'tongue in cheek' though!
-
and the worst thing is you'll loose back pressure making your car loose valuable torque and bhp
-
what will, removing the middle box?

what will, removing the middle box?
Drilling a hole in it

remvoing the middle box will also....what you may find though is the rev range will be a bit higher (it's all to do with compression)
you will also find fiting a backbox also make the peak bhp or torque a bit higher up too

I'm not really that fussed with gains as its slow anyway, its mainly for sound, miitch-golf on here has an ebay backbox and middle box removed and it sounds sick. Its really raspy on its way back down the rev range it pops and burbles.
What i want is the same thing just not as loud as his is too loud for me!
I was thinking of getting a backbox off ebay made by MIJ, its 80 odd quid and heard good things about them but if a cheap ebay one will give me the sound i want i may as well get that!
