Title: Anybody got a Vento?
Post by: Len on 23 February 2011, 12:57
Need to know what the boot latch looks like and how it operates!
If only vagcat was working!

This is for the smoothed hatch I am working on, as I am looking for an alternative manual latch.
Yes I know I can buy a solenoid kit of ebay!
But I want be able to open it by hand and still have the pneumatic C/L.

Oh I am assuming its only the Mk3 that has air operated C/L.

I'm confused. Are you trying to have it so that it will pop when the central locking is still "locked"?

Believe he has shortened the plate recess so wouldn't fit :)

As simple as they are Ive always being a big fan of those Cult Society boot trims since i had one fitted to my mk2. much cleaner looking.

the boot release is separate to the cl, so you can have your solonoid hooked to the lock and have it work if car is locked or unlocked. but if you've smoothed it off there would be no button anyway?

Button could/would be tucked up out of site behind new metal plate.
The problem is the angle it would have to sit at!
IF i use the existing latch I would have to turn it at least 60/70 degrees, so that makes the connecting rods difficult to work. If indeed they will work at all.

Need to look at a Mk2 and see how that works.
Alternatively I can go back to my first idea of using a Passat boot latch but that means I will have to run the C/L for that via the alarm box using the feed to the air pump.

Damn! Thats exactly what I want except for the plastic plate bit! I will have to see if I can find out more about that as it looks perfect except I want it behind a metal plate!
Anybody good on translating German?
Guess I'll ask my colleague who sits next to me!
(Yes she is German!)

No!

Yep! By about 50mm either side, but the recess is still the same size for a standard number plate.
The sides are now vertical if you like or at 90 degrees to the flat metal of the plate recess.

mk2 boot lock button works in a similar way, though there may be some differneces in the linkages which might work to your advantage :)

iirc the mk2 button is narrower though thats the only thing, so a bit of metalwork to the hole so the mk2 buttn fits

Looking at how it goes into the body metal on the link MrAnderson posted  they must create an outer sleeve or something to change the angle.
And that sits at approx 45 degrees, so the connecting rods are longer.

Thanks for your help as usual John.
I'll find a way of doing it somehow!

SORTED!

Well nearly!

Photos and explaination in my Project Thread but basically can turn the latch enough to make it work and bending the connecting rod and extending the other it will work and fit under the new metal plate!
