just to help out there is a recall of a VAG camapign with recalls of nearly all FSI/TFSI/MPI engines
1.8 T-6.0 MPI
For the 2.0 TFSI the affected engine codes:
AXX-BGB-BHZ-BPG-BPJ-BUL-BWA-BWE-BWT-BYK-BYD
Ignition coils with part number- 07K 905 715F, 07K 905 715D, 06H 905 115, 06F 905 115F do not need replacing as they are not affected if your ignition coil isnt one of the above part numbers they will be replaced with the revised part 07K 905 715F
hope this helps and you can check your car to see if you can have some free coil packs
just phone your dealer and if your car is affected as above part number list they will book you in FOC
Aaron
P.s Im an audi technician before anyone asks if its true haha
-
Had mine fitted today when it was in for something else. 4 new coils (car is a 56 plate).
-
Saw this on another forum to. So without booking any work you could get this work done foc if the codes match?
-
Just had mine replaced too this morning. Car is feb 07 Ed30.
My car feels alot more responsive since having the coilpacks replaced??
Odd but im not complaining
-
is it easy to check without going to dealer?
-
Where do I check what coil pack part numbers I have?
-
Yes how can I check if mine is eligible to have this changed free of charge? Will take it in asap if i'm eligible
-
Cheers for the info. How do I check my car to see if mine need changing?
-
I looked in the front cover of my handbook - saw engine code AXX and believe that means mine needs to be replaced. That's where I'd have a look and then if your engine code matches those Aaron listed, I'd take it in. Not sure how to check part number on the ignition coil packs though
Currently in having the timing belt and water pumped changed with my local mechanic (not a sniff of me going to the stealers!) so once that's done, will take it in and get eligibility confirmed and, if necessary, coil packs changed.
-
Not sure how to check part number on the ignition coil packs though
The number is etched on the top side of the coil pack but only visible if the wiring connector is removed.
-
i'd seen this too.
our car in for wing rust fix at minute - will sort it soon.
-
Sorry not replied just remove engine cover/airbox and unplug each coilpack and check the part number
-
Popped into dealers today. Service girl checked Vin number. GTI already has good coils. OK
-
has anyone got a link to the official recall notice for reference?
-
Basically, if your GTi is Regestured roughly prior to April 07, there is a 95% chance, your car is in the recall.
Call your dealer with your reg number to confirm.
-
hi pleased i looked at your link ...rang vw silverlink checked the details and my car needs a new coil pack ,,going in on the 16 march..cheers everone
-
yep mine was affected, got it booked in!
:-)
-
Found mine comes under the recall so booked in for Wednesday so hopefully will get rid of my missfire and back to normal.
-
Is it just GTI's affected or other too? Whaqt I'm really asking is does it affect my 2.0 tDI
-
The girl at Lancaster VW said lots of R32's need the new coils.

Give your local dealer a ring, they will tell you if it is or isnt fella
-
Mine needs new ones too. But does anybody know why, is it a fire risk or something!!
-
Got mine booked in for a couple of weeks time. The girl said something about the Ignition coil - is that the same thing?
-
TDI's dont have coil packs I believe. call them with your reg if unsure.

Phoned my local dealers today to ask whether my coilpack needs changing. "Sorry sir everyone in our service department is busy, can I get them to call you back?" So I agree and give them my number. Do they call me back? No they dont. How many times has the same thing happened? This is the third time. f**king dealers useless bunch of w**kers!
-
Hi" All
Called into dealers today to check my 56 reg, the service guy checked his data base with Germany and mine needs doing.
So booked in for first thing in the morning.

I did and it doesn't need doing

Managed to get through to the Dealers today, and my coils need replacing. He asked me if I had had a letter or something to tell me about the issue and I said no. He said they weren't telling customers ,but if i had happened to pop in to the Dealers they would have checked my car. Sounds like a loada bulls**t to me. Is it me or is that really apalling service? Surely they should have sent letters out to all affected customers as soon as the problem arose?

Had mine done this morning, I asked the same question to the service guy he says no chance of any fire risk. There was a batch that were fitted with the wrong ones apparentley.
-
had mine done yest.
cant say any difference, so as long as they don't blow up now
-
Mine was in getting the Air con re-gassed yesterday and mentioned this issue...found out my car is included in the recall.
My friendly local dealer called me today to tell me new coils had arrived so booked it to get done...car itself has no issues but may as well get it sorted as its FREE!
-
I've just called up and booked mine in. Maybe they can fix my lose air filter hose while they are at it?!
-
had my coil packs replaced under warranty this morning, cant tell any difference!
-
had mine done yesterday, no difference at all.
stealers want £249 to replace front brake discs and pads and £162.32 for EACH of the 4 tyres.
Politely declined, stating I will be going elsewhere to save some money better spent on my baby than their salaries.
She didn't like that did dealer lady!
3169 for DSG service seemed reasonable though??? so may return for that when due.
-
From the guys who have had this done already? How long does the job take to complete? Is it a leave the car with them the whole day job or can they turn it around in a few hours?
Cheers!
-
mine took 1 hour

15-20 mins max, but depends on how fast it hits the ramps once you had over your keys.
-
thats what I meant, from walking in to dealer to driving away, 1 hour.
-
booked mine in for friday! they said it will take 1hour, they need a cupper tea as well
-
Got mine booked in on Friday! Told it would take about an hour as well!
-
Had my 07 ed30 booked in for its 2nd mot today. When i dropped the car off, they told me there was a recall on the coil packs, and would check mine. (First registered march 2007).
On collection, yes, all coil packs changed. Been for a blast, and cannot notice any difference. Better safe though, than broken down.
-
finally got mine booked in, "sorry sir service department is busy can I take your name and number and get them to ring you back" nearly 48 hours later I get a phone call, booked in 2nd april  still it's free
-
got mine done today, makes no diffrence, they just sold me aload of sh!t lol
-
Got mine fitted this morning as previously stated...no notiable difference I don't think but as it was free, a worthwhile exercise!
-
Had mine done today on my 2005 2.0 ltr fsi touran.
-
Got mine done yesterday; I was given the warranty advice paper as proof and there is a new sticker near the spare tyre.
Together with the minor service, it seems a 'sweeter' smoother engine.
-
Yip, just bought a 56 plate golf gti and when getting the timing belt and water pump done, the vw specialist I used said to phone up vw and give reg number to see if any outstanding recalls. Sure enough car now booked in on wednesday for a recall for ignition coils.
probably won't notice any difference but the parts are new and not four years old so better than a kick up the back side
-
i called vw to see if the coil packs needed changing on the gti i have just bought, turns out they do need changing, the woman went to great lenghts to reassure me it isnt a safety issue, but a FOC offer to keep my car in tip top condition, even had the offer f a courtesy car
-
my 06 gti went in after vw called me, i know almost fell off me chair..lol. anyways they changed 1 for me with no charge @ all. thought it was a bit strange that just 1 was changed but saved me 100 pound or so, so
-
changed one?? they are a set. bit odd
-
They changed them all on my 05 GTI. Didn't even have to ask them either. Still robbing bastards when it comes to anything else though.
-
changed one?? they are a set. bit odd
i rang them today, they said they changed them all so hopefully i was just told incorrectly before
-
had mine done at leeds vw today, dont know if i will be going back to them for servicing though, i got the impression they looked upon me as a pain in the backside and didnt seem to be treated as a paying customer woud have been. they left the plastic seat cover and paper foot mat in the car when it was returned to me, so i just took them out and brought it back into them.
anyone recommend a good vw dealer in doncaster, wakefield, york area??
-
I just wanted to say a big thanks for making me aware of this recall - as I get mine serviced now at an independent I was unaware.
Just got it booked in at the local dealer's to have the packs replaced. Cheers. :)
-
Cheers for this!
-
Just to confirm, now had this carried out - thanks again. :)
-
I just called my local VW. All you need is your reg no and they will tell you if your car is affected. I own a 08 edition30 and was ok. Thanks for the tip off

Put my 07 Golf GTi into Arnold Clark VW on Crow Road in Glasgow this morning having been advised it needed new coil packs when I phoned them to check. When they physically checked them it turned out they didn't need doing after all. Only took an hour all in, and better safe than sorry.
On the plus side, I got a wash and vac and all the coffee I could drink in an hour :)
I usually avoid dealers like the plague, but I was pleasantly surprised by the level of service and professionalism. The service manager was on the ball, making sure everything was running smoothly, allocating jobs to his desk jockies, and even helping customers use the very complicated coffee machine.
There was even a driver on hand offering customers a lift to work if they wanted it.
If anyone from VW Crow Road Glasgow is reading this, Good Job!
