im gonna get a new pioneer head unit not sure which one as of yet. cant mke mi mind up. anyway, i have had a look at prices and its as cheap as chips if you get them ship from the lump of land they call usa. if i do this will it all be compatible or will i have probs

they will work but ive been told you dont get FM reception on the radio.

You will get an FM reception as the principle of radio is the same across the world, but the range of frequencies/stepping of frequencies may be different to those of a UK spec model.
I know Jap import cars have a frequency range of 76-90Mhz (and this is unique to Japan). The UK range is approx 87-108Mhz.
You can buy frequency expanders if you find that the unit you buy is too narrow or its stepping/searching incorrectly.
However, if you're looking to buy on ebay, pay close attention to the fees these guys charge for postage - its often ?35+, which when you add to purchase price doesn't make it that attractive - another ?30 would secure you a UK item with 12 months european waranty, and its intended for this market, so you know it will work.

like wat s11eps said it could be better of buyin in the uk as u know ull get fm radio but if ur savin loads of money then just spend the saved money into a DAB add on so u can get digi radio

There is a chance that you might get hit with the tax if it is shipped from the US too and the post office will keep hold of your package until this has been paid so once you have paid this and the high postage fees you wont end up much better off.
Also if it goes wrong it will not be easy getting it fixed or replaced under warranty.
