I just had 2 new rear tyres put on my Mark VI - Pirelli P Zeros - and the ones that came off were the original Dunlops from factory fit - 40,300 miles ago. WOW!!!!!!!!!
Mind you - the tread was down to 1mm on the inside (woops) :embarassed:
Still 4mm in centre and outside though!
Interestingly, the fronts were replaced at 21,000 miles with GoodYears and they are wearing well.
Views on Dunlop v Goodyear v Pirelli?

sounds like you've got a bit of a problem there with the uneven wear.
-
Yeah - they were originally on the front and Kwik Fit moved them to rear. Tracking was out (but fixed now)
-
Sounds like a common problem to me... dunlops nearly always wear uneven and never wear out quickly enough

He hasnt, Dunlop tyres deform are known to wear unevenly.
Change tyre brands chap.I wouldnt ever contemplate any of these (Dunlop, Goodyear/Pirelli.)
-
In that case, what are the best tyre brands out there?
-
Continental IMO. Uneven wear does seem to be a problem on the rears due to the suspension set up.

(The best Winter Tyre is the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 which is W rated. BMW think so for their M3 and so do I for my GTI).

All about the Toyo T1Rs although no idea what they're like in MK6 sizes but in 15" form they're nice and grippy, great at shifting water and cheap!

Yokohama Parada Spec 2's are a very good tyre! No idea if they do them in the ocrrect size for a mk6 though, i had some 205/40/17 ones and now have some 15" versions on my civic.
-
Fellas, take you small and inadequate 15''s elsewhere please.
-
dunlop/goodyear are the same company.
pirelli i would stay away from personally
continental is all i ever run on my motor great tyre all round maybe wont get the same wear tho
michelin you get for what you pay for the best milage and tyre by far but there much more expensive
if you were going for goodyear i would go for f1
-
dunlop/goodyear are the same company.
Yes, in the same way Skoda and Audi are the same company, but which would you rather have? Dunlop are the lesser version of Goodyear.

Quote from the tyre fitter at Kwik Fit after putting the Pirelli's on.............."They're great tyres with fantastic grip but they're a softer compound than anything else on the market so you'll probably wear them out faster than the Goodyears or Dunlops" :undecided:
