Title: What is this making noise from bottom pulley

Hi used form before was very helpful so other day i realised that on the bottom cam belt pulley thier is a metal plate just want to know what this is as its rubbing on the pulley its self and making a bad whirring noise can tryed to tighten it but makes it worse and can push it back in and seems to click in to place but just pops back out shorly after driving so all i need to know is how to i remove it and can it cause damage or is it more of an innoyance thanks any help would be brillant

Sorry dude not entirely sure what yo on about, the only think i can think is that nothing should be moving down there  :grin:

It looks like a little heat shield like a little plate attached behind the pulley

Is it an 8valve or 16valve?

A photo of the offending object would help loads.

Are you talking about the ringing noise, that happens on a 16v, when the power steering pump pulley, catches the crankshaft pulley, usually after a cambelt change?

is behind the bottom pully you can see a little metal plate as if its a guard for something its loose and rubbing in the pulley and its the 16v kr engine

As mentioned above my metal half of te cambelt cover used to rub against the pulley. I just bent it by pushing a screwdriver against it. There should be a bolt near the bottom of the cover aswell which bolts the plastic and metal halves together

yes it looks to be that ive tryed to bend it looks like it need to come off so to my next question could some one please direct me to a guide to doing the cam belt and alternator belt as this need done anyway thanks and hopefully it wont do any harm rubbing the now will it ? as have a 50 mile a day trip to work and back and wont be able to fix untill weekend

might as well as this as well the other night i was sitting down the motorway quite quick and when i slowed down the car started to backfire when am at low revs and runs quite bad and a lot slower ive checked the dizzy cap and gave it a wee clean and also checked isv but i dont think this is kicking in just changed fuel pump and is defo gettin fuel and the co2 got set not long ago should i get this set again or is there anything else i should check first feels like its lean but funny how it done it suddenly after a drive thanks in advance

THot I would update all my posts the noise was the bit of metal that holds the bottom belt guard rubbing againt the pullel was going to take it off but got it on properly and no more noise if It ever comes back will take it off but just updateing for any1 else who gets the same problem
