Title: GTi windows opening 2" on their own? Any Thoughts?
Post by: Stitch on 21 February 2011, 09:49
I've gone to the car in the morning and on two recent occasions, 2 or 3 of the windows (It's a 5 door), have been open about 2 inches. No damage to the lock and the car is in a gated and CCTV'd parking croft with secuirty (so unlikey to have been tampered with).

Any thoughts on what could be causing this or is it a trip to VW?
Thanks

Search for posts by 08micsta as I believe his parents GTI suffered from this and either they reprogrammed the window control module or had it replaced

Just thought I'd hightlight the irony of this post given my other post last week; http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=183372.0

I'm answering my own question!

Where in South Wales are you?

I've got full VAGCOM and based in Merthyr Tydfil

Only problem you may have is you're either miles away and I'm off on holiday from Wednesday

Thanks Rhyso. That's a very generous offer.
As you say though, I think time and distance may make it tricky to get together before you leave for your hols.  I live in Cardiff so can drop it off to Cardiff VW on the way to work.

Thanks again for offering though - very generous of you and much appreciated. Incidently, how much is the VAG COM to buy?

Cheers

Not a problem mate.  If you need anything in future give me a shout :afro:

Full proper version is approx £250.  A worthwhile investment if you're keeping the car long term.  3 visits at £72an hour and it pays for itself   Its also useful for any coding changes for things you may retro-fit in the future

Title: Update:

Well VW have said there are no faults on the car but have reset the windows and stopped the comfort part of the remote operation that allows you to open all the windows.

On the plus side the also put the latest recall on the car for me......4 new coil packs under the recall warranty. Happy days.

Funny you should mention this as it's happened to mine about 3 times - only thing is its always been parked in the garage when its happened so my thinking is I've caught the comfort button in my pocket whilst bending down to lock the garage. This has made me think though so next service I'm getting the comfort option de-activated

They asked me if it could have been that. 1st time maybe but not the second as i was watching for it. They did disarm that fucntion though just in case.
