Title: Mk4 2.0 throttle boddied. Were to map?
Post by: Karl-gti on 20 February 2011, 18:15
Hi, iv just bought a mk4 2.0 gti running individual bodies. Its running lumpy and isnt smooth until jitting high revs. Been told it needs mapping to set them up correctly. Was wondering weres the best place localy (mansfield nottighamshire)? Also what sort of price am i looking at and what gains can be expect? Is it a comon mod and is there anyone on here with experience with a similar set-up? Thanks

TBs on stock ecu not going to work correct, maybe a few 100 hours on the map code stripping it down and running the basics vs tps?

Your best bet is a cheap setup like mega squirt imo

Thanks for reply. Could the mega squirt be piggybacked from standard ecu or would i need to do awqy with that alltogether? How much would i be looking to have this set up correctly with the mega squirt ecu? Cheers

Don't think MS would be good for a mk4. OEM ECU has more control over vehicle components, and this would be lost. Although it could be done and you probably would need something that could run it in alpha-n mode to get it working properly.

It's also not designed to work in piggyback mode.

I cant help but am interested in the project as I have a 2.0 too.

There is a RR place over Tibshelf / Alfreton way but I don't know if they will be able to set the bodies up.

Well the standard ecu will be no good so your going to need to switch to standalone really.

The bloke I took it to more or less just said it would cost a fortune to set-up right. I dont have much details about the engine other than its on throttle boddies. The bloke who I took it to said whoever has gone to do the conversion has bought all the right stuff and recons it must of cost a fair bit, but then looks as thought theyve just threw it together and half ased had a go at it

I would spend some time trying to work out exactly what has been done and what needs to be done.

Researching other ITB projects etc to get a better idea on whats involved and see if you can sort it yourself.

No chance of me being able to sort it mate. My mechanical knowledge if minimal and iv had 5 fiestas before the golf so i know them inside out, but not the golf :-( never had itbs on any of my cars either. I was putting bike carbs on a 1.7 puma engine so had a bit of an idea when i was going to do that but after id bought most of the stuff i sold it uncomplete. It looks as though everything needed is there already apart from an aftermarket ecu but id idealy need it to go to someone who has a lot more knowledge with these so i know exactly whats going to need doing, what im going to need to buy if anything and whats sort of costs are involved. Anymore help is much apreciated and sorry for being such a n00b lol!

Running alpha-n  is only going to remove the maf, but how is it going to fuel on the narrow band? plus the car need to have ref point from tps not just cross over X 0v to 5v scales, but also adpation offsets.  It would be a huge job to write and patch a map to just run a basic TPS scale with out giving and adaption DCT and putting the ecu in to limp mode.

Is a supercharger kit available? Would love that and that might mean a cheap throttle body set up for sale

is there no way you could sell the throttle bodies and junk the ecu and run it on a set of  twin webber carbs instead ?
