Title: Can't Set Clock?!
Post by: HARVS1789UK on 19 February 2011, 17:30
Ive pulled the fuse (Fuse 21) for the luggage compartment lighting and MFA to wipe the MFA/Clock and re-inserted the fuse. This cleared all the MFA data and time etc as I was hoping but I still can't change the time on the clock?

It keeps time fine and in that respect it is working but when I reinserted the fuse it defaulted to 00:00 as I expected but using a ballpoint pen on the little buttons in the dash just has no effect? ive checked the manual to make sure there is no requirement to hold anything down whilst changing the time etc and tried a few things but nothing?

Does anyone have any ideas? The clock reset back to 00:00 originally when the battery went completly flat, I don't know if changing the time worked before that happened or not as it was not long after I bought the car...HELP pppllss

mine does the same. the two buttons for setting the time do nothing. all functions of the mfa work fine, just the time cant be set. i may have to whip the battery off and back on at midnight sometime...

Try pressing the buttons with something a bit finer. I use a straightened out paper clip.

Lol I hadnt even thought of that, I think ill have to go with pulling the fuse and replacing it at mid-night.

Tho that will be a pain come daylight savings time etc

Anyone else had or better solved this problem?

On my old mk2 I had to press really hard otherwise it didn't do anything. I had to use a nail and something like a coin to press against it. Don't know exactly how it works but I'm guessing the contacts had oxidised.

Maybe worth a try?

Yeah ill try again sometime. Can remember thinking that it would break if I'd have pressed any harder.. Think I used a 1/2 mm allen key

Use a toothpick or cocktail stick just so you dont damage the little buttons.

The little stalks can break off so you have to push something all the way down to the clock face... Depends on make ie Motometer or VDO, but I've had issues with both types...

Failing that just reset battery at midnight,

For the benefit of anyone else with this problem as suggested above using something narrower (I used a bobby/hair pin) and pushing a bit harder did the job

Clock is now set and MFA working perfectly.

On a side note if anyone has dodgy/broken/intermittent courtesy lights (interior light when door is open) try unscrewing the switch from the hinge side of the door frame and rubbing down the spade connector/switch with some wire wool. Just sorted mine out a beaut!
