Title: recommendations on tyre/alloy insurance on 18" monzas?
Post by: Taff_09 on 18 February 2011, 18:14
Hi all,

whilst waiting for my gti arrive (build wk17) i have been pondering on whether to get tyre/alloy insurance, GAP is a no brainer so will get this online rather than dealer.

but as the missus is going to probably drive the car a fair bit i am "concerned  :undecided:" as to whether she might end up damaging them lovely 18" monzas, or some other dopey driver/person, they would cost a fortune to sort if curbed/damaged (of course it would not happen to me at the wheel!)

any recommendations/thoughts on this type of insurance? waste of money?

I may be very wrong but I can't fathom an insurance company paying out for endless refurbs due to careless parking. They'd be bankrupt in under 12 months!

Like me - Don't let the missus drive it - problem solved

dealers definitely try to sell this along with gap but can't see anything obvious on tinternet, they tend to give u a policy which allows for a set number of refurbs over a few years so its not unlimited, hate to think i may need to consider the dealer's option on this!

as for not letting mrs use it , been there and lost that argument!

seems its not that common!

My good lady doesn't want to drive mine :) chit fear of prancing it etc. - she's a good driver but fear drives her ( or not as in this case!!)

I know Jaguar were selling a dings and scrapes policy on their XF. For about £400 he has unlimited dings and smart repairs including a limited amount if wheel refurbs (but these are smart repairs which in my experience are ok on basic wheels but not a very good finish)

I'd say save the premium and bs prepared to use someone like Leptons or rimrefurb to do an OEM job.

They even lend you a set of donor wheels whilst yours are in for the works!
