Title: DRL configurations
Post by: dubber36 on 17 February 2011, 11:35
I have searched but cannot find the answer, so maybe someone knows. Can tail lights be configured to come on with the standard DRL's?

We will be getting a GT TDI with standard headlights and DRL's. I personally don't mind the standard yellowy lights. They remind me of dim-dip headlights from back in the day. But, you do see so many people driving in poor visibility conditions with DRL's and no tail lights. I'm sure my Mrs would be one of these. Her current 307 has auto lights which she tends to rely on, even though they don't always turn on as early as I think they should. So is is possible?

I for one have no idea and Mrs Doc has nicked my golf so I can't go look

I just leave my lights in the on position all of the time

Doc, if you leave the lights in 'On' all the time, is there a delay before they go off when you take the key out like they did in my old Leon? :)

No, you need to leave the switch on auto for the coming home / leaving home lights to work

So, are you leaving your switch in the dipped beam position all the time? If so, does everything turn off when you take the key out? I would have thought that would still have left the side/parking lights on.

Turns it all off when you take the keys out.

Are you not getting the auto lights/wipers/mirror with ur GT?

I'll have to go and check now, but I thought just auto wipers. I'm pretty sure auto lights and dimming mirror are part of a convenience pack.

Bugger, I thought I was getting Auto wipers as standard. I hope it's not too late to add the convenience pack to my order.

I though the match model upwards has auto lights/wipers?

On the R, if you just have DRL's on, i believe the tail lights remain OFF. If you put on side lights, the DRLs go dimmer and the rear tail lights come on.

This may work
Using VCDS
Central electric---coding--->  long code helper
Byte 11 select it

A box below will come up
A tick box next to 'Daytime running lights via low beam' will unticked, tick it. click back, click 'do it'.

Its how the xenon equipped cars are setup. Mine was setup like that so it had front and rear lights on all the time as DRL. I had to untick that box to turn off my DRL.

Cheers Snoopy.

The only issue I can see with that having hallogen headlights is shortened bulb life.

I need to get myself an up to date VCDS cable so that I can do this myself. I reckon we'll run normal DRLs through the summer, then low beam headlights when the clocks go back. Now if only the car could do that itself. It can't be beyond the realms of possibility.
