Title: Diesel In My Boot
Post by: xxpenxx on 17 February 2011, 10:17
Omg it is really pissing me off the smell now.

When my car was buggered, I had too buy a new diesel cooler too get it fixed, the one I picked up from the scrappy I didnt bother tipping up or anything, thought it would have been emptied.

Clearly not because my boot stinksssss and everything I put in there gets the smell attached too it lol!!!

What can you guys reccommend too clean this with??

I'm brassick so cant really get anything too fancy atm.......

Is it the boot mat, if so might be easier to replace it.

right... in which case beg, borrow or steal a pressure washer... find a stiff brush (a nail brush is ideal) and get yourself some degreaser (such as megs degreaser or autosmart G101)..

pull the carpet out... liberally spray the carpet with a dilution mix (according to the instructions on the container) of the degreaser... leave it to soak in for a wee while and then work it really hard into the material using the nail brush... leave it to soak a little more but do not let it dry out

grab the pressure washer and methodically work your way, a section at a time, over the carpet and wash the gunk out of it... make sure you have thoroughly rinsed all the degreaser out of it

if you have an extraction machine, like a vax, which can hoover up water then now is the time to use it

if not.. hang your carpet up on the line if it is a sunny day or in the garage and leave to dry... make sure it is dry before you put it back in your car.

you can go from this...

My home remedy.

Sprinkle baking soda over the boot carpet. Cover the entire area and leave the baking soda on the carpet overnight. The baking soda will absorb any remaining fuel and will also help to absorb the odour.Vacuum the baking soda from the carpet the next day.

Then wipe the carpet with a damp rag soaked in warm water and white vinegar 50/50 solution.

Wash the carpet with normal carpet cleaner, eg 1001. Leave to dry.

Then use a spray bottle with a vodka and water solution.  5 parts water to 1 part vodka.  This will kill any remaining smell.

Jonathan.
