hi all,
i thought id replace a few crusty hoses on my 16v and noticed, along with some oily black stuff, loads of mayo-like gunk, obviously oil and water mixed. it was in the large hose from the black plastic filter thing and in the filter thing itself.
The car has no oil in water or water in oil when you check the dipstick and expansion tank for rad. it does not overheat and has not lost any power. the only thing id say is that it seems to put alot of white steam/smoke from the exhaust. i thought this might just be where its been driven hard in its life, worn rings/valves etc.
Its not been looked at since i bought it 6 months ago so i cleaned it all out and cleaned up throttle body and it seems to run a little better now than it did but it wasnt that bad in the first place to be honest.
My question is, is this something bad thats gonna get worse or could it just be condensation from the engine depositing in the breather pipes!!
any advice or thoughts would be a help!!

Its common for the breather pipes to clog up on these cars especially if the car is only ever used on short journeys. Id give a good clean up and service then a nice good thrashing.

Sweet, thats what i like to hear, a bit of optimism!!!
I cleaned it right up and the throttle body, but without taking it it off so fingers crossed!!
cheers!!

Yes the pipes can junk up due to condensation on short journies as it doesn't get up to full operating temperature. This can cause the 'mayonaise' which can look like HG failure.

mine does this, smokes a lot especially when cold on chilly days or damp days but doesnt lose any oil or water. I only drive a mile to work so i put it down to the short journeys and condensation build up.
