Title: TDI tuning advice
Post by: Bdub on 05 March 2005, 12:27
Hi there,
Thinking of changing the Mk2 for a TDI PD golf.
Does anyone know how effective the PD tuning boxes are on a 100pd engine. I have seen them Ebay for about 20 quid. Can they do any damage to the engine?

One guy is even selling instructions on how to make one yourself for a few quid?

Does anyone know whats in these things or exactly what it does?????

Cheers

Think all they do is alter your fuelling. Should see gains on a PD100 to about the 130-140 mark. Have a friend who runs a PD100 Bora which he has seriously messed about with and now runs about 190 ish with twin intercoolers. Not sure how quick it is but will be going up against him again at the GTI Festival at santa pod in April.
For ?20. it's worth a try IMO. A re-map will set ypou back between ?350-?500 and a chip change around ?300.

The one on Ebay for ?20 is a resister.Have look near your fuel pump on the gearbox end of the head.Where the fuel pipe runs from the fuel filter there will be a fuel temp. sender in the fuel line.Unplug this and bridge the two wires with a 150ohm+ resister(these cost tops 10p from Maplins). This now tells the ECU the fuel is cold and opens the injectors for longer,so more fuel more BHP,but fuel use doesn`t seem to get worse but better. This doesn`t put any faults in the ECU and my van is still running spot on if not better.Thats what you get and i`m just telling you what it does,if you do try it i`m not responsible for any damage!!!!!
