I've thought of a few things that I'd like to take on as the first real mods done to my car, but would like your opinion of first and potential pitfalls/costs etc
1:front end vento conversion
2:interior colour change (from nasty cream/beige colour to black)
3:lowering on new springs
Or a fourth I've thought of was unsure of before in that it's the turbodiesel engine, possible an uprated induction+exhaust combo? Or would that need a bigger turbo ontop of it to make any real difference?
Cheers in advance guys I look forward to your varied opinions

1) Don't bother been done to death, standard Golf front and smoked headlamps.
2) easy enough to sort with a s/h interior.
3) fit a complete shocks and spring kit but try and avoid cheap coilovers.
4) not sure.

2: sh*t hot?
3: any recommendations ?

2) second hand GTI would be easy to source.
3) Jamex or Boge gas shocks and a quality set of lowering springs, remember that a Diesel has heavier duty fron springs.

*cough*gti forum *cough*
besides why waste money tuning a mk3 diesel? just make it look nice

My only knowledge of TDi engines are of Passat ones of around the same age. A better panel filter with a drilled airbox and cold air feed with an exhaust and a remap would see away pretty much all petrol models.
The diesel has much more torque, and you know what they say, BHP sells cats torque wins races.
I've got budget coillies on mine and have had no problems with them at all, saying that mine is a petrol car and it seems I'm one of the lucky ones. I fully intend to upgrade them when I've got the cash. Weitec are a great company for suspension too.

Diesels like hot air, so a cold air feed isn't a benefit for them.

That I didn't know.

diesels like more air, diesel like more fuel.
turn the fuel up and you'll get more torque, then turn the boost up to burn off the smoke, bigger intercooler then turn the fuel up ...... boost ...... fuel..... bigger injectors....boost ....fuel ....... bigger turbo.....fuel.....boost.....fuel.....boost... methanol.....boost.....fuel ........BANG..... fit new enigne

only to a point, cooler air = better inlet charge density, also means cooler compression tempriturs so it can hold them back a bit. but automotive diesels don't really get to the point where low intake temps are a problem modern TDI's run some quite massive intercoolers so run them as low as you can they won't be low enough to be a problem. anyway optomum intake temp is masssivly dependant on the type engine but it is not unknown to use the coolant to heat the air intake on big gennys/ plant / marine diesls that see artic conditions

how would i go about doing this?

There's a company on here that can sort you out the remaping, is it R-tech?? I can't remember, search for it. As for turning the boost up I have no clue. If you're gonna change the exhaust and air filter do that before remapping.
On the B5 Passat 1.9TDi those mods would see an increase from 150bhp to 180bhp-ish. Apparently you can go further with that, but don't quote me on that.
