Title: Induction kit / panel filter??
Post by: werdnaqwerty11 on 04 March 2005, 20:25
hi,
I've been searching around the forum and have read quite a few different things regarding induction kits. What should I do - buy a cold air induction kit, standard induction, or panel filter? I read somewhere that induction kits are no good for some engines, is this true?? I can't understand why  surley the engines still getting air, just more air than before!?  anyone recommend one? Thanks  :undecided:

not a fan of induction kits. Dont see the point in them as car companies spend big bucks building engines then we go and fit a 40 quid induction kit to them

Does sound good though.

Pannel filter me thinks

if you've been reading then you'll know i'm a panel filter all the way!!!! you don't say what golf it is but in my experience they dont work any better than a panel filter and in some cases can cause a negative effect. plus a panle filter is cheaper!!!

2 words for you ...

"Heat contamination"

In ideal conditions more air matched by more fuel will see a slight BHP increase - but with the induction kit sucking up buckets of hot air as Joe says, u'll get a negative effect as the air isn't as dense.

Panel filter for me too I'm afraid

Right that seems to be an overwhelming NO to the induction kit then!! well, it is cheaper for the panel filter and one less modification for the insurance too. not that i note ever little mod!!
which is the best chip for my car. It's a 1999 model so i think that means it's not drive by wire? it's a 1.8t gti. The only bugger about having no drive by wire is i can't have the free 5 hour test  oh well!
