HI finaly worked out how to start a new topic lol anyway I have a mk2 golf gti 8v converted to kr 16v the external fuel pump Is leaking for bottom of caring and causing problems I got a full unit off another car but when I tryed to remove the 4 bolts that hold the bracket to the floor of the car the 1st 1 snapped so I just left it and now wanting to know can there bolts that hold It to car floor be replaced as they look like stuck in to floor ? Will be very gratefull for any help as am totally stuck here thanks
-
No I think they're integral to the shell. My 4 were v rusted as it was a carb model and never had a pump bolted up. The 1st one I touched snapped, so the other 3 I wire brushed as much as poss, then 3 in 1 oiled, and worked the nut back and forth to clean the thread. Just take your time
-
NO prob thanks will try that
IS their any other ways like drilling right threw the old bolt in to car and putting a bolt threw it from the inside just wanting to know incase this goes badly wrong lol
-
iirc the floor here goes under the seat so that would work, but 3 nuts will be just fine. even 2 would be more than enough as long as they're diagonally opposite each other
-
NO prob least I know theirs a back up if the other 3 snap as not tryed them yet just soaked in wd40 and left hopefully they come off ok lol cheers
-
use proper penatrating oil, wd40 is for dispersing water ;)
buff the threads with a wire brush, then as above as you undo take it easy, undo a bit then ti8ghten again, more brushing and more oil, repeat till they come off
-
Yeah preventions better than cure.. Half hour spent taking it easy will be quicker than titting about tryin to re-nut and bolt it later..as rj says 3 bolts is fine, that's all I'm using..
-
NO problem I will do what kind of oil you talking about ? Thanks
-
halfords do an own brand penatrating oil, which i use all the time. plus gas sposed to be the nuts :)
-
THanks for the help will post and let you know how it goes

YEAH thanks I used similar stuff to get nuts off worked a treat but changed the whole housing and pump but the 1 I put on is quite loud compared to my old 1 which I still have still have should I change pumps or is the noise ok ?
-
loud pump could be its on its way out, or maybe the lifter pump has packed in. unplug the 2 pin connector to the main pump then turn the key 1 click, you should hear tyhe in tank pump prime. if not replace it.
if it is working then its prob worth swapping your old pump over at some point, but its a bit of a pain i9n the rear now that you've already done the job
-
