Title: Obd problem
Post by: neil1780 on 13 February 2011, 16:11
It appears my car is obd1 is this correct it's a 97? Also I tried a launch machine today to read any faults and that won't read the ecu either any ideas why?

Ok I got you it's just 1 plug. Why won't it read then? The plug on the car only has 4 pins inside it is that right?

obd1/2 doesnt really make a difference the diagnostics system is the same, just the shape of the plug. and ya, it only has 4 pins. does the led on the diagnostics plug light up? check the fuse for it, on same one as ciggy lighter. ignition needs to be on as well

need to go into device managed and check what number the virtual com port is, if its higher than 4 you need to change it to 4. you may have to reassign another ports number to free up a space for it.

also you must do the test with the cable plugged into the car with the ignition on
