Title: SHOULD IT GO OR SHOULD IT STAY?
Post by: Judderi on 04 March 2005, 12:56
I cant make my mind up. Should i get the rear tow eye cover smoothed over or should i leave it as is? The bodyshop tried to convince me to leave it as it is used when you have the car on a rolling road. What do you all think?

I might smooth mine over. I'll just add it to the list of things for the bodyshop to do!

Wow check out the mix of oppinions! I would prefer it smoothed over but is it needed when the car is on a rolling road?

the more i think about this the more i think smooth it over but if you are worried about needing it for a rolling road, the worst case is you have to remove your rear bumper to get to the tow hook.

Yeah i would prefer it gone, its a good excuse not to tow anyone! But has anybody had their golf rollered? Is it needed?

hey was just looking at your project section and you mention you want to smooth over the flaps on the side skirts. wont this mean you wont be able to use your jack without damaging the side skirt? i know you probably use a trolly jack at home but you never now when you'll need the original. i have to use my original jack to lift my car a bit to get the trolly jack out without damaging anything cos its so low!! i've never tried jacking it withut lifting these flaps so it may be possible, but thought it might be worth thinking about?

Yeah i hear what your saying but i would just use the standard jack on another point underneath somewhere if possible or phone a friend to come and get me with a trolley jack. To be honest ive never ever used it before. Plus i wont be able to get at my spare anyway once the fiiberglass boot build is done. I know its a risk but hey you only live once. Plus ive never hitch hiked before and it will be an experience!
