..... it's always possible I might not have searched very well of course.....   :rolleyes:

My passenger side rear caliper is dragging. I noticed it pulling a bit so hopped out and checked it and it was RED hot.

My handbrake seems to work good though, and ain't floppy at all, which makes me think it's not the handbrake mech.

Should I rebuild that caliper or just go straight for the mk3/mk4 upgrade?

Cheers. What advantages am I looking at for the MK3/Mk4 items? Less siezy and better handbrake?

Hit the handbrake lever on the caliper with a hammer to free it off.

The handbrake spring is internal, so not exposed to the elements, thus less seizing.

Ok, so for a mk4 item I need a wee banjo fitting. Are the Mk3 replacements just plug and play?

then spray the area with penetrating fluid.

Hit with the hammer again.

Repeat spray and hammer a few times :grin:

then find some external calliper springs off a corrado and fit.

they are a bastard to fit but once on they keep the handbrake off.

wear some goggles and watch your little pinkies too :wink:

mk3 calipers bolt on, mk4 need conversion cables. if its pre-88 mk2 you may have to fit the calipers upside down to get them on as the handbrake cable routing is different. might be possible to tweak the cables to run as per later models though

Ok, so The handbrake lever is super free so the stickyness is internal somewhere.

Pumping the brakes and handbrake a few times gives me varied stickyness.

Some time when I'm not running off to work I need to check and see what the other side feels like. I mean, I can feel the brakes dragging but I can turn the hub by hand when I've got it as free as I can.

Maybe it could almost be a case of the handbrake is a bit too tight and is never coming off completely?

I'd really rather not spend the cash on an upgrade, so is it possible to refurb my mk2 ones?
