hi guys and girls, i have a mk3 gti 8v just lately it has no accerleration from 3/4 to full throttle it drives well had dont miss a beat just really flat can any one help plz
-
More details please.
What do you mean no acceleration from 3/4? Does it misfire, or what? Maybe the cable not opening the throttle body properly?
-
its moving full thottle ok, just car is holding back like theres no power
-
I've said it before and i'll say it again, it's a Mk3 - deal with it :lipsrsealed:
-
Yeah, could be a sticky accelerator cable or throttle body butterfly. Are the revs cutting off at any particular point ie. 5000rpm?
-
How long have you had this car, are you familiar with mk3 Golfs?
-
no just had loads of mk2 golfs, yes 5000 would be where it gets flat
-
Generally when a mk3 cuts off at 5000 rpm it means it has gone into 'safe mode', have you changed the timing belt or had the timing adjusted recently?
-
no nothing done, it was running sweet but decided to go flat on me
-
To be fair, an 8v won't go much more after around there...

As you can see torque drops a lot, and after 5500rpm the HP falls too.
And now this is the same engine with a rally spec cacmshaft and some mods

Torque still drops a fair amount, but it holds peak HP for a little bit longer.
8v's don't really like to rev...

If the limiter kicks in at 5000rpm then yes, but if it revs above then no...
