i have the same type wheels as this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDxD_AboFIo
but whoever had the car first is a total bellend and never looked after them
the alloy around the outside have gone a horible dull colour and feels kinda scaley
whats best to shine these babys up?
-
thanks for moving this mate
i didnt know what section to put it in
-
No problemo
-
see alot of different places say alot of different things and i dont want to fux my wheels up lol
will sanding the crap off with 220 grit get it back to shiney then give it a layer of clearcoat do?
-
220 is pretty harsh m8 , that wont make it shiney , maybe like 1500-2000
-
ok mate would i have to start straight at 2000 or start harsher and work my way to 2000 ?
and would this polish them up and get them back shiny because they are terrible
like a aluminum greenhouse after years of weather :(
thanks for the reply
-
do you have any pics ? up at 2000 is really fine that will shine up once polished , if they are really bad you may need to start a good bit lower, but the lower grades can leave scores/scratches. have you considered getting them refurbed ?
-
hi mate
i will take some good photos tomorrow in the light and then see what you suggest
maybe i would be best getting them done at a wheel refurbishing place
ill post some photos tomorrow morning buddy :)
-
heres the photos guys :)
and does anyone know what these rims are called?

there all pretty much the same
they look terrible

are they pitted? if so you have a lot of work. i did some bbs's that had pitted and i started at 80.
if they are not pitted then try 600. if that isnt working then go up a grade untill you get to the finest one that actually does do something. then rub them down for hours and hours and hours!
failing that, post them to me and i will do it for you for £40 a wheel
-
what do you mean by pitted mate?
when you rub your hand over them they feel abit bumpy instead of smooth
i have been told to use brasso first to see how they come up
-
the above for £40 a feel sounds better.. hand polishing is a waste or time and effort when you can send to someone get a better uniformed finish for not a lot of money !!
-
i can get them done for 40 pound a wheel here and saves a bomb posting tho
-
pitted means the brake dust has actually eaten into the metal and if rubbed down by hand would take a long time and probably a lot of different grades paper.. a machine can do it much quicker and a much more uniformed polished finish..
-
im not sure what to do with them
some people have told me to get them rubbed down and sprayed but then i wouldn't know what colours look good
think i would like to get them back to being shiny and keep the centers black
i would like to do it myself, but have been told to use some autosol to try and polish it up now
i dont think its the brake dust i think its just weathered
looks like my moms greenhouse was lol
-
autosol is not bad stuff give it a whirl and see how you get on..
-
ok thanks bud
-
notice youre local
try the wheel specialist/labtap in erdington, or prestige wheels a little down the road from there by showcase cinema
prestige do polishing, laptap do everything, but they arent cheap
-
yeah mate i think im going to give it ago myself first and if i carnt get a good result get them done at a refurb place, and thanks for the tips :)
i have heard good stuff about Britemax EASY CUT
and i seen some videos on youtube and it looks quality stuff
the vids show that it fixes things that are in worser condition that mine
if i carnt get them sorted do any of you guys know how long it takes a refurb place to sort the wheels out?
or a rough guess
-
No offense, but they look like cheap anodized rims to me, and you may struggle to get a decent polished finish, without an awful lot of work!
Thom
-
no offense taken mate , they were on the car when bought. im not sure what they are called
are they a kindof copy of bbs ?
i think ill buy that stuff and see if it cleans it up as i seen it clean up ally t hats in terrible condition,
if it doesn't work maybe ill give the wheel a rub down and a full respray but not sure on a colour,
or not sure if i should spray them one colour or keep it 2 separate colours
-
I think thats your best bet m8, hopefully they come up good for you.
-
yeah thanks mate
