Hi guys my little red gti is getting lowered next week and I would really like your opinions and pics on how low to go? Want it to look could and handle better but I live in Hertfordshire which is home to the friggin speed bump so want it to be functional as well.
Opinions, pics and advice all welcome.
I'll post some pics when it's done.

80 mm is a nice drop, what wheels are ya running?
-
I guess your fitting coilovers in which case start with a 60mm drop on the front and 50mm on the rear.
-
60mm is a nice drop and practical. Mine in my sig picture is 60mm and the speed bumps ain't a problem just the bloody potholes

I'm running it on 15 inch bbs alloys soon to be painted black

check my thread here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=68845.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=68845.0)
this shows mine at std height, -40mm and about -75mm!
-
Anywhere between 60mm-80mm is fairly sensible, however it is worth noting that generally the lower you go, the worse the ride becomes (with cheap coilovers anyway!)
-
If you can measure the drop in mm then it's not low enough
-
Ive said it before and I'll say it again - 40mm is the best lowering amount.

 What a girly amount of drop!
I'm looking forward to when mine can go lower again, i'm thinking probably after the RR day in April...don't want it so low I can't get it on the rollers
-
Drop it all the way and see how you like it, work your way back up until you find a height you are happy with.. noone can tell you how "low" to go...
-
I don't know how much is dropped by, but if you want best handling then level out the wishbones which is what I have done.

And it's practical too, scrapes on the odd bump or two but nothing serious

The Floor. Hertford isn't THAT bad :D
Pretty bad but i manage it daily

I think I might have to agree here mate. Aesthetically it's a NO but for actual drivabilty it's a massive YES and this is what wins for me.
-
As Khare said. Lowered mine til the splitter just touched the floor but it was horrible round bends.
Level them out and it handles well.
-
Go this low:

I think it's around 60mm, I'm running Weitec Ultra GT shocks and springs, very good setup! I personally wouldnt go any lower than that - wheels up in the arch look sh*t and it handles like sh*t too
-
Ive just brought the Weitec ultra GT kit for mine as it goes after reading lots of decent reviews and getting it at an absolute bargain price.
-
Care to share where from??
-
eBay - I managed to negotiate a full and unfitted kit still in it's original packaging for £100. The rrp on them is £340! Im just waiting till payday now so that i can buy a complete bush kit to install at the same time.

That was a bargain :afro:
-
Sorry but how do tucked rims look sh!te?
Looks neater than balloon tyres and still an inch of arch gap.
Maybe not more practical but its all about the committment
-
dennis 10 - How are finding the Weitec in the comfort department, do you think polybushes would be too stiff with this set up and just stck to genuine rubber?

thats just your opinion - some might say that gold decal looks sh!te on the car in your pic
-
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the gold decal, but love slammed cars. It would be sh!t if everyone liked the same thing.
-
I actually thought the decals were
-
Havent a clue how low mine is but its very good for every day driving wont be as good soon though as im dropping the front end down more
