Title: Insurance + mods
Post by: R32UK on 10 February 2011, 17:53
Just go a letter through from my insurance company as my policy is up for renewal 1st march. They are no longer willing to insure me due to modifications on the car

Just shopped around for another quote and the best is £2100 with mods

£900 without

Looks like this may be the last straw for the GTI... a GTI without being remaped

A list of insurers used by the modders may be helpful here

Hi mate, before choosing my insurers i looked into who were mod friendly, I went for Admiral in the end, competitive pricing and don't mind you messing with the car.

I'm with Greenlight Insurance (http://www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk/)

They are mod friendly, infact they only insure hot hatches and the like, worked out well for me.
I had an accident a couple of years ago, not my fault, and it was sorted quickly and efficiently.

thanks for the help guys... unfortunately mods and points on licence dont go too well together :undecided:

the best quote with remap seems to come out at over £2k... so it looks like the remap is going to have to go

really is a shame as this is how the gti should be out of the box... and for me probably spells the end of GTI

^^ does that make such a difference?

Or is it a mix of points and remap.

My remap costs around £100 a year in insurance.

Yeah, when I rang Admiral to see how much my premium would go up with a Revo Stage 1 and they said £98 per year.

The points are probobly the main reason for the price hike.
