My dads missus has a Mk3 GTI 16v with the standard wheels

Is the standard tyre 205/50/R15 all round?
I'd look myself but the car is 300 miles away, they're hard up at the mo and want to help with a couple of things when I see them in a couple of weeks.
Thanks

That's what are on mine.
-
Mine are 205/50 R15 86V. Guessing they're right as they've not fallen off...

Earlier ones had 205/50/15. Later ones had 195/50/15.
The 195/50/15 are the better choice as they look better (205's look like balloons) and the 195/50 rubber is seriously dirt cheap.
Most of us here run 195/50 on the standard tyres

Cool, cheers fellas... 195s it is then :afro:
-
As Khare said switch to 195/50's cheaper and easier to find.
-
iv got 185 on my fronts :)
although will be running 195/45 on my 7j fronts, 8j rears :)
-
khare got it the wrong way round tho
the early cars had 195 on 6" wide rims and later (like the pic) had 205 on 6.5" rims
-
Yep, that

You sure on that?
Pressure sure the later cars had 195 rubber fitted to reduce the contact patch thus improving efficiency. Something to do with the CO2 reduction :undecided:

Ive brought 3 completely standard mk3's in the past few years, one was 96 and the other 2 were 97 and all had 205/50/15 fitted.

Nope later cars were 205/50/15's my 1996 had them fitted

Fair enough. Doesn't matter though as my 1995 had 205 fitted but I changed to 195. Maybe previous owners changed to a different size?
Ah well.
-
Ah feck... thought this would be simple...
I think it's a 97 R plate.. will get my old man to tell me whats on it at the moment when I get hold of him again, his missus and the car are away mon-fri, that's why i'm asking at the mo.

Get 195/50 though mate, much cheaper rubber and still sits the same.

I believe they started fitting 205's early 1995 so that would be right

It should have 205's fitted but no issue with switching to 195's

I fitted 195's for clearance reasons (the old michelins were really wide and touched the arches when low!! luckily 195 fulda have flat sidewalls...)
