Title: steering rack pipes
Post by: filthy on 10 February 2011, 09:36
Hey guys, I've having a bit of trouble with a customer of mine and I was hoping you guys could help....

As some of you know, I make the little fluid transfer pipes for the Golf power steering racks.....but I have a customer saying to me that the pipes I make are too small and his are much bigger...

Now, I've made literally thousands of these over the last 6 years and I've had a fair few Golf racks pass through my hands too and as far as I'm aware, the pipes are all the same....

Is there some kind of uber rare rack that uses different size pipes to the standard 6mm pipe/ 10mm banjos? because none of my contacts have ever seen one- I'm not saying the guy is lieing, but.......

The car in question is a Golf 3 16v- ABF engine....

Any input gratefully received, more for my own education than anything else!

yeah there are TRW and ZF makes. ZF usually LHD only though. could be was a remanufactured part?  i think best option would be for him to send you the old pipes so you can look at them

Thanks guys, you're right...the LHD cars had ZF and TRW/XTR Racks, but VW only list one for the RHD cars....

I thnk I've sussed what's happened now....readng between the lines he's bought the transfer pipes thinking they were the high pressure and return hoses, although he hasn't said as much....

I'm just glad that I was right, it was really vexing me!
