Got my Tax renewal letter today. £235 for a year, daylight robbery I tell thee! Whats worse is my MOT, Service and Insurance are also due  Just 6 months tax for now then @ £129.25.
It still doesn't make me want a diesel tho

i know it has gone up a lot in the last few years. However, it is still a lot cheaper than some of our European neighbours.
In Holland it would cost considerably more to run a car - tax is something like £125 every month to run a GTI, fuel is more expensive and so is new car tax.
Its all relative

I never understand taxing for 6 months, that means it costs you £23.50 more a year, so in fact you are paying £258.40 a year now!

I agree, although the reason i tax for 6 months is simply down to cash flow and available funds at the time. I really stretched myself to run a GTI and £129.25 is just a bit more manageable even if it does cost a little over £20 every year for the privilege!

Yeah exactly. My service will cost £200, insurance £500, MOT £50. So that would have totalled just short of £1000! Hence only 6 months tax for now!
In 6 months time I can get a yrs tax, then at least the tax will be offset from all the other stuff next time!

£235.00 divided by 12 = £19.58 a month.

Ha...thats nothing! Mine was £233 for 6 or 425 for 12....OUCH!

6 months is good for as I tend to run one car during summer and a different one during winter. Buy pre 1973 and it's free anyway.

My tax, insurance and MOT are all due at the same time. Cant wait . . . .

He may be only doing it the once to put his tax away from the insurance and mot , so he doesnt need to pay for all 3 in one month
