got a 1.8t engine and i went out in it tonight , was running fine and floored it and went fine , slowiing down it started making a crazy knocking noise and then carried on from there , pulled up checled timing and it appeared to be fine , took spark plugs out and it isnt as loud but then put them back in and its really loud, still same amount of power and no miss firing , sounds like its coming from the bottom of the engine near the bell housing ,
-
engine code ?? scanned it for faults ?? coil pack ??
-
agu , no still runs fine , just making a really bad knocking not sure if its the botttom end or gearbox but would the gearbox make a noise even if im jsut turning it over on axel stands with it in neutral
-
Ok well it pains me to say this but it wont be coil pack then lol..
My first look would be the gear box mount.. they can break but also the rubber insert breaks down and causes knocking
-
checked the mounts mate , nothinks up my guesses are either the clutch or gearbox has broken , or a bottom end knocking but it sounds like its coming from the bell housing
-
Seriously even if the mount looks ok doesnt mean it is mine looked fine and removed to poly bush it and it was well on its way not knocking but on its way.. does the knocking get louder as the revs climb ?
-
nope , i took the coil packs out and the spark plugs then it isnt as loud , but just running it i think it stays the same

Post a video if you can, that will help.
