That depends on the day of the week. Friday evening is definately a "Watercolour" (Pendulum) moment. Dynaudio can just about handle the base

Currently though I am very much diggin "Hey Floyd" (Track 12 to the new Jamiroquai album).

Jeez I gotta grow up someday soon

Play Rebecca Pidgeon Spanish Harlem from an original Chesky Records CD you may notice the mounting limitations and midbass limitations of the setup and the lack of upper end extension to the trebble. I love playing that track on any door mounted system.

With my new setup I've found "I'm Holding You", on Weens' "12 Golden Country Greats" album is a really nice quality recording, as is "Pretty Amazing Grace", on Neil Diamonds' "Home Before Dark".

And Tracks like "Din Daa Daa" by George Kranz, on one of the Fabriclive compilations for Friday night :-)

going to revive this thread....

really loving my dynaudio stereo recently, though i prefer certain types of music to other using it as it struggles with certain types of music IMO.

anything too bassy i dont really bother with now as the stereo doesnt seem to like it.

'proper' music or alot of vocal type music the stereo is superb.

some of the best tracks on the dyaudio i reckon

kasabian - fire
mumford and sons - below my feet
emeli sande - river
u2 - miss Sarajevo
lana del rey - blue jeans

this set up seems to love strings and vocals.

anyone any suggestions of what sounds good on this set up?

also what settings are people using on their equaliser?

Pendulum is a good call sounds great and also the Prodigy Invaders Must Die however my reference tracks for delivering bass are U2 Love is blindness which the Dynaudio can handle but Metallica Struggle within needs a sub.

I actually quite like "Superman"

Totally undynaudio related, but I have fond memories of being let out on my own in my bosses 635CSI in 1988 when I was 18. That had a thumping system for its time. I lost count of the amount of laps I did round the town with "Rainbow - Since you've been gone", belting out through the open windows. What a tw@ I must have looked.

Hidden menu? How deeply hidden?

The long press on 'Setup' (20 seconds or so).
It's in there, under 'sound' I think.

If you can't get to the menu, it needs to be enabled with VCDS. Into 37 Navigation, Adaptation, Ch50, change the value from 0 to 1 to enable the hidden/diagnostic menu.

Radio one live lounge sounds mint, Ben Howard is my fav, I keep my treble and 0 as find it to harsh in the highs as the dyn audio is quite rich in the highs IMO, must say the bass can't reach the lower notes but with a small sub in boot system will be fantastic

Ok, I like my classical music and there are two stand out tunes that I can't help but play with the sound turned up a few notches.

Habanera sang by Maria Callas

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJWomuGMcGY

O Mio Babbino Caro also sang by Maria Callas

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6bSrGbak1g

The Godfather played by Andre Rieu

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVmJhbhjPYU

Also classics which get me dialling up the volume are....

Wild West Hero -ELO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXmkGi-ERW8

Live and let die - Paul McCartney and Wings

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swVoXHVW-jI

Who wants to live forever - Queen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Jtpf8N5IDE

And just because I love the video....especially at 1'55" Bump and grind FTMFW!

Wu-Tang Clan - Gravel Pit.

Philippe Jaroussky anyone

Mind you I also have Aerosmith/AC/DC/van Halen/Orbinson/Williams on cd for the car...and the occasionally MP3 stock for long drives

I do hate all the Chesky ones....to me there is a HUGE difference between playing the top notch sound quality and playing the top notch artists ....

And yes I got quite a few Chesky ones for my home stereo.....never ever playing them again....

BTW
Treat your Dynaudio every now and then with the old fashion cd whenever possible....nice equipment deserves a uncompressed source

Me neither. Just took me to a submenu for radio information. No sign of a Loudness setting anywhere else that I can see.

only loudness setting i can find is for speed controlled volume and AUX input, which i have on low
Title: Re: Dynaudio best tune?
Post by: AlanH on 28 December 2012, 21:49
On most hifi amps, the Loudness settings enhances the high and low frequencies when playing at a low volume, so it would be useful on an in-car system.

Hi

I am a sick audiophile myself...

The setting on the 3 zeros do indeed suck...

After I played different settings by ear I discovered finally that with the minus 7 treble plus one mid minus 3 bass sounded best...I really thought the damn thing was broken...such deviation  :undecided:

After reading the link and pressing the setting (very close to my findings) in the link (a true measurement) the result to my taste the -9 treble +3 mid -5 bass DOES sound better meaning very usefull information

Tried the recommended settings this morning. Initial impressions are good - much more detailed mids. I'll try them over the next week with various sources - FM, DAB and iPod whilst driving. BTW, I have the fader set two clicks to the rear.
Title: Re: Dynaudio best tune?
Post by: mkviken on 30 December 2012, 17:41
i tried them and didint like it

sounded too hollow to me

i had a good mess around and now i have

High = 3 up from lowest setting
Mid = +2 from middle
Bass = +1 from middle

seems to work pretty well so far
Title: Re: Dynaudio best tune?
Post by: mkviken on 31 December 2012, 19:32
am i best of using my iPhone for music as an AAC file is 256kbps and when i put them on a usb and convert to mp3 they drop to 160kbps

will i notice a difference in quality between the two?

i used to always just use my iPod or iphone but found it much easier just leaving a usb plugged in all the time instead

also is the SD card any worse or better than the usb?
Title: Re: Dynaudio best tune?
Post by: AlanH on 31 December 2012, 19:42
I think you will notice a difference. AAC is a better codec than mp3, so generally speaking an AAC file at 256kbps will sound better than an mp3 file at the same bitrate. It's also worth considering that when you're converting your AAC files to mp3, they're being compressed a second time. I use an iPod Classic in the car with all my files at 256kbps - a reasonable compromise between audio quality and file size.
Title: Re: Dynaudio best tune?
Post by: mkviken on 31 December 2012, 20:23
some of the purchased songs i have on itunes i have just re-converted to mp3 to the highest possible which is 320kbps

there is a sub menu in itunes where you can manually choose higher bit rates than what they automatically do

just tested it and I'm sure it sounds better than the 160kbps mp3's i was using before.

i have an ancient iPod (2003 it think) which lives in my garage on my old stereo for when im working in there, an ipod nano in the wifes car and the first colour screen type iPods i use on my home hi fi

i cant be arsed to keep stealing one from where i normally have them so usually use my iphone in the car but the sd card or usb is definitely easier to just leave in there

i will try my iphone again on the car stereo and see if there is much difference.

im pissed off as i just realised you could convert to higher bit rate but no way am i going through all my cds and re-installing them on the computer!

Has anyone heard the Fender system in the Beetle? I was very impressed with that yesterday and wondered how it compared to Dynaudio.

I have...there is more bass from the fender sound system as it has a dedicated subwoofer in the boot, I had a loaner for 3 days when my EGR valve got replaced.  I did think it was better, but then got back to Dynaudio and just though they are different.

p.s. my settings seem to be completely different than everyone elses I find theres just not enough Bass if I try the recommended settings.

Treble +1
Middle +3
Bass +7

RCD510 mind.

I like the rear view mirror to shake with the Bass. Lenny Kravitz - American Woman, makes a good vibe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzWHE32IxUc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzWHE32IxUc).

I suspect it's an RNS thing...
Mine is an RNS510H, but my old 'B' unit had the Loudness setting too.

The RNSs and RCDs sound different too - the RCD better to my ears.

Also, I'm wondering if the sound differs from 3dr to 5dr?
The front speakers should be in the same place, but the rears will differ.

well today i got a new SD card and copied all my music from my USB in the arm rest to it. ive been using the USB as i kept forgetting and leaving my iphone in the arm rest.

i decided to try the SD card though as i can now charge my iphone again but have the same capacity and usability of the USB stick and i can just leave it in the car without worrying.

i found the SD card is a bit slower than USB and sometimes crashes out, needing ejecting to work again. otherwise its just the same really.

i tested the same songs on my iphone vs the SD card and i can definitely say somehow the ipod quality is marginally better the the SD card and USB. (EQ on the ipod was turned off)

im suprised there is any difference as theyre copied at the same bit rate

also my passenger door card speaker area rattle needs sorting so thats a job for a dry day!
