Title: Monzas destroyed!!!!
Post by: GW74 on 08 February 2011, 13:26
Devastated!! Needed a new tyre and the idiots have scratched scuffed and battered my pride and joy Mona Shadows! Dont know if any of you guys have hada problem like this but i need to know what to do. Already emailed the head office as the depot denied all blame. There was not a mark on the wheel when i dropped the car in. Really cant explain how angry i am  Any suggestions or even ideas on how to fix it would be superb.

Horrible. So sorry.
I always take pictures of the bits that need doing so there is no argument. :nerd:
Ideas for fixing? Not the right one to ask as I'd just buy a replacement wheel to keep my sanity.

Agree a price for a refurbishment at a place of your choosing with the garage, and then get the refurbishers to invoice them.

I very much think the price of refubishment will cost nearly as much as a new wheel as they are obviously 2 tone, get some prices and invoice the garage, don't back down, don't let them win.

I had the same thing with Kwik-Twits when they put a couple of marks on the outer rim of the monza alloy. Not that noticble but I know its there which bugs me. I didn't follow it up any further as its always difficult to prove it if you don't take pictures of your wheels etc before hand. But go for it and write to them etc. Hope it gets resolved for you.

My mate had a similar problem and complained til he was blue in the face.  He had no photo's of it before it went in but the garage ended up paying for the refurb on the damage they caused.  Do everything you can, threaten to go to Police too as this amounts to criminal damage.  I'd go in and speak to the manager to and make it known that you are going to do everything in your power to get it sorted.

Also, CAB may be able to help with legal advice.

How I hate reading these threads! Makes me so scared of getting tyres changed.

Have a read of this thread GW74: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=174358.0

I feel for you mate

For repairs go here: http://www.spitandpolish.co.uk/

I always use the same garage for my tyres, a small specialist in Warrington called Jim Jeffreys.

I have my own tyre fitter who just happens to be my neighbour. The monza's are a nightmare to look after, but brilliant alloys . If it was me I sue the twits

Really sorry to hear about this pal, I have the same ones and would be devestated if they were damaged by Joe Bloggs on the street whilst parked, yours were damaged by a specialist company which hurts even more !
I would, legally, try and put the blame down to them initially, but not sure how effective this will be...?
Last resort, to avoid an insurance claim, would be to buy second hand ones if yours cant be refurbed. PS The shadows are harder to work on.
Again, sorry pal !

Useless tyre fitters suck. But do as Doc suggests and go to a small specialist or firm that sells alloy wheels, explain your concerns about potential damage and your alloys will be treated right. They might be more costly than Kwik Sh1t or whoever, but its worth it for the zero hassle factor.

I completely agree with Doc and Snoops. Go to a small place whose business is totally dependent on 100% customer satisfaction and word of mouth. My Tyre Place is in Park Royal, London, run by a father and son. There's just the two of them. No one else. They do all the work. They are part of the Kwik Fit group for purchasing purposes, but these guys are ace, very knowledgeable, extroadinarily careful and totally trustworthy. I am so lucky to have discovered them.

I experienced this when I had 4 new tyres fitted on the audi at National Tyres

After a lot of forceful discussions they agreed to pay for the three damaged wheels being refurbished - ended up getting the 4th done at my cost to ensure it matched and it had a few marks anyway

Don't back down but remain firm and professional

Explain that the wheels were nto in that condition when you brought them in and through inaccurate use of equipment they have marked them (it is usually that they haven't used a rubber protective shield on the machine that de-rims the tyre)

Also for polished wheels they should be using a wheel face protector - basically a circular shield that sits on top of your wheel and it is this that the machine makes contact with, not your wheel.

Is this your first set of new tyres on the car - does this fit with the mileage?  This more weight to your argument as well, as they cannot claim it was done previously when tyres were changed.

Good Luck

A few years back I suffered the same at National Tyres when my Alfa GTV was in for front tyres.

They though were great about it.  The manager rang the local Alfa people and ordered on my behalf a new wheel and the job was sorted next day.  The old wheel [with only a minor scuff] is still in my garden[!] and acts as a kind of multi-holed flower pot!!!!!!!!

The garage in question is National Tyres, they have a website where you can contact customer services so i've done that. The manager flat refused to accept responsibility for the damage and told me his equipment cant damage a tyre! he then made a point of showing me the thing they used. I was going to say before they worked on it that there wasnt a mark on the alloys but thought that might be a bit over the top.....lesson learned!
Taken pics but dont have any before pictures. Not holding out much hope. i'm new on here and struggling to work out how to add pictures as i've got a few of the wheels.

See photobucket.com or imageshack.com
Upload your pictures to that site, then it will give you the option to click on a direct link to put in your post that will show the picture (basically the web address of the photo will have [ img]and[ /img] tags either side of it). Best way I can describe it, it will become self explanatory when you do it!
