Any ideas on how to improve it?
I don't have a taxi driver antenna  It's a stubbly short-ish one (about 25cm long), I know it's not the best but I expect better reception from it.
Obviously antenna cable is plugged into head unit
Any more ideas?

listen to a different station?
move?
-
Run a second aerial off the original one with a splitter and hide it beneth the scuttle panel or reroute the original cable to a widow mounted amplified aerial instead.
-
Run a glass mount amp aerial and leave the roof aeriel as a dummy.
-
Fit an amp to the aerial, think GSF do one.
Maybe check the cable has no cuts or breaks etc. but that means a fiddly headliner job.
-
I've got a wing mounted aerial by the way guys  I think I may get an amplifier for it, how much do GSF sell them for?
-
I listen to talk sport alot and my arial was pants but bought one of these signal amps and its perfect now get all the stations and there easy to fit.

Guessing blue connects to remote and job done?
-
Is that what you call it  yeah if you put the radio on just before you connect the blue wire and you will hear the difference straight away.I think Halfords do them aswell but there silly money about £13 just check which type of connector you need for your radio as theres 2 types which im sure your aware of
-
Nope didn't know there were two types
50/50 chance I guess
-
Pretty sure the one on ebay is the one I needed the other type of connector is ISO have a look at this other link and you will see the one you need once youve looked at the rear of your radio

Looking at that I would say the common one for vw would be ISO to DIN bottom one.
-
Ahh, mine is din. SO the one you got is the one that will fit mine
-
 as I said just take the radio out and check the your system is DIN and then check the end of the arial out to make sure its that ISO connector if it is then yes thats the one but check dont want you blaming me if its wrong
-
The aerial has a din end, so yup, din
-
Sorry Khare, I wasnt really looking at where your aerial was!
-
No worries
-
you can buy aerial boosters (amps) that keep your original aerial and only need a live feed (blue) and the aerial lead plugging in (and then connecting to the radio)

I tried an aerial booster on my roof mounted aerial and it made no difference, may work on wing mount tho. My roof mount is so crap it works just the same not being plugged in at all. Any ideas why this is?

Mine works a treat and Its a big improvement are you wiring the blue wire up correctly ?Failing that what I had to do with my old VR was remove the lower part of the dash under the glove box passager side and trace the arial wire down and you should find a kind of plug joiner there mine on my old VR had been cut by its former owner god only knows why but I went the scrap yard found another one plugged it in and it worked a treat worth a look anyway

Cheers for that buddy, i'll check it out.
