Hi,
Im currently driving a stock Mk3 16v - its in good nick and I quite like it (hasnt made me emote like my Mk2 but thats another story)...
Anyway, Im thinking of changing to a VR6 - do you guys think that the hike to 175 bhp is worth the extra cost (purchase/petrol/mainternance), compared to the performance of the 16v?
TIA
Jon

Hi,
Thnks for encouragment - :-)
There's a minter VR6 on ebay at the mo - BUT its an auto - what d'ya reckon? - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4529924179&ssPageName=ADME:B:DS:UK:28
Is manual the only real option for a VR6?

I've never driven a vr6 auto, but i have talked to people who have, and all of them said they really like it, they said the box is well matched to the engine and is very smooth. Only down side is that vw are not known for good auto boxes, so if you plan to keep the car for a long time (above 100k miles) you might want to budget a few hundred for a gearbox rebuild or similar in the future.
However that's all just hearsay, not my experience.
The VR6 on ebay looks pretty good, excellent history, not sure about the wheels or the beige leather, but that's just my taste.
If you're really interested, get in touch with the guy and go and see it, give it a long test drive and make sure you give it some when it's warm; really work the auto box at all kinds of revs.
And also try and drive a manual to get a comparison.
Good luck

go for a manual. much better in awkward situations and bad weather. plus its more fun to drive!

I like the look and the leather, the only bits I don't like are the Wheels and the fact that it's auto, I'll ignore that the HU is silver in the pics, other than that if all is true then that's one nice VR6, low mileage, well serviced, if you like it then go for it I say.

Thanks guys - on balance I think I'l go for a manual - shame I like that leather int.

Yeah go for a manual
Only good thing about auto vr6's is they are cheaper to buy
