Title: MK3 GTI STEREO PROBLEM
Post by: Antquinn on 06 February 2011, 18:42
Hi

I have a MK3 GTI and its has a ( dont Laugh ) Mutant CD headunit fitted.

The problem is when I turn the ingition off it looses all presets , tone controls etc.
One thing I have found out is that the car is using the original headunit connectors that came in the car from new,
so is the problem I have due to these leads?

Would I be better off going to Halfords and buying and after market set of iso ( i think they are called ) leads?

Cheers

Ant

You need to switch the permanent live and the ignition live wires. It'll be on the ignition live wires now hence why you're loosing all the preset stuff.

I think perm live is red, and ignition live is yellow.

So would I just cut and rejoin them ?

Or get the extra leads and then cut and rejoin?

As Khare said you need to switch the wires around.

they pull apart?

They are covered in almalgemating tape but seem to be hard wired, no obvious joins in the cable

somebody must have butchered the wiring at some point. It will have to be cut and join after all.
