Post by: Craiglannon on 06 February 2011, 16:35
Hi folks

Just bought myself a mk3 2.0 golf gti 16v and having problems gettin a decent insurance quote.

Biggest problem being I am only just 19 so am sure that's not helpin

best quote I have had so far is 2k.

Anyone know a decent company who will go slightly cheaper

cheers craig

WTF! £3360 per annum

are you insane!? Not worth it at all, no matter how I try and look at it.  The breakdown cover is only worth £30-75 a year.

I'm not dissing a mk3 but you could get a far better car for your age with a better deal than that.

i'm with admiral on a saxo vtr at 18 for 1450, you should of looked at a mk2 gti 8v, quicker and cooler, and cheaper!

Spot on, that is madness, paying £3360 for a years insurance when the car is worth what £1k tops is never worth it.

Makes me feel old my years insurance is less than 1mths payment

I am with Wayne and sound on this. I insure 2 cars cheaper than your monthly payment.

But hey it's your cash.

And again, that's crazy amounts of money!

You'd be much better off buying a smaller engined car, build up your no claims/driving experience and then moving up to a gti. When I was your age I insured a 1.4 for about £500, I have since built up my no claims and have my Gti insured for just over £500 with mods declared (i'm 23 btw).
