Post by: woody1 on 05 February 2011, 20:04
does anyone have a step by step guide to removing a vr6 head and installing one ?
how to put cams in , time up , head gasket  etc ?
got a 2.9 ported head and drc 268 cams to fit wondering how easy this is to do or garage jobby ?

That all depends on you and your capabilities.... Ever done anything like this before on a smaller more simple engine? If not, I don't think i'd recommend taking yours to bits unless its got a problem.   Have you got a Haynes for a VR6, that would be a good start?

Haynes don't do vr6.
Buy a bentley manual, it has all the info you will need.

it depends how far you gonna go with it,first way remove top timing chain cover and wind off cam chain tensioner and remove chain then remove inlet manifold and exhaust etc or are you going to replace the chain because if so its a gearbox and flywheel job off,i have just done the gearbox on mine on my drive and tbh its a arse,if your not very handy with the spanners give the head ache to someone else, ok it costs more but if it blows up or something aint right you can take it back for them to repair.hope this helps
