Post by: VR6_ROB on 01 March 2005, 22:10
I need help here
every time i am in the motor it sets off fine
but when it gets hot its tickin over at 2000rpm
if i take it easy on a journey it takes a while ot get there but its increasin
what is the problem I got told the idle control valve

now i have 2 of these and i tried them both on and it still does the same
so one is in the garage soakin in carb cleaner and wd40 but i dont think it will work

what else can it be the car drives fine
cheers

I sounds like its sucking in extra air from somewhere. Make sure the idle valve fits snug. If so check for hissing noises round the injectors, if the seals have gone it will be sucking air in from there. Look for holes/gaps in vacume hoses or main intake hose etc.

is it an 8v or a 16v?

have you checked the seal on the idle screw?

if the ISV "buzzes" (if u can feel it vibrate) when the car is running it's ok..

theres a thing that moves backwards and forwards inside that creates this buzz.. like some kind of pulse code modulation).. in effect what you're doing cleaning it is trying to free up this thing if its stuck..

if its ok.. follow what  Mk2GTI2.016v said and look for vacuum leaks everywhere.. I had a similar problem on my car a while back which turned out to be a leaky brake servo hose

right i cleaned out the isv it aint makin a noise so i dont think its that
as it just does the same when i put it back on 2000rpm

but...
I can hear a noise comin for where the injector rail is
hissy tappy noise if its this can i just change the injector rail as i have a spare
one on my old head in the garage

Yes you could chage the rail but a better idea might be to replace the seals which are just like little rubber bands as the other injectors may be faulty
