Time to confess your Hobbies, past or present, I guess most of us are on this forum, because of an early interest in cars, maybe being bought a present, or visits to Toy Shops.
I have an addiction to Mattel Hot Wheels, "Redlines" in particular, so called because of the red lines printed on the tyres. Redlines were only produced from 1968 to 1972, and pretty much killed off the likes of Corgi, and Matchbox... Redlines now change hands for very often vast sums of $$$'s..
Because I cant be bothered to go and photograph my collection, I'll just copy and paste pics from Google, but I will choose the pics carefully to be a like for like representation of my collection, and yes, if pushed, would stand the "custard test"
Heres a few of my Favourites
Custom Barracuda

Custom Mustang

Funny money, I paid serious $$$ for one of these a few years ago :lipsrsealed:

And a nice link to Redlines Online, and this, the Holy Grail of Hot Wheels, read, and you'll get an idea of how much these things can go for... http://www.redlinesonline.com/2ndRearLoaderStory.html

my youngets son kane is obssessed with hotwheels and has a huge box full of them.
i have dabbled witht he idea of collecting them as some of the cars they do are very cool but have never bothered.
when i was a kid i was obbsessed with toy cars and that is all i played with.
dont realy have any left as when i was about 13 i discovered my dads huge vise in the shed witch then became the crucher and sscrap yard lol.
i do still have a black trans am with tiger stripes i got from collecting tokens from frostys when i was a kid
and my son still uses the plastic mat with roads on that i used to play on as a kid that my mum gave him out of the loft.

Any hobbies Guy, I was assuming that as this is a car forum, then most would be into diecast, but anything goes, but collectables being the key word... Anyone got a Troll collection

Most of my matchbox/hot wheels were destroyed by the
hammer of DOOOOOOOM
Hey it was fun at the time
Also done stamp collecting for a year when I was 9, quite boring when most of the stamps were exactly the same as the ones I already had. I had my grand fathers full collection from when he was younger (and alive) wish I still had it now
I've started collecting matchbox Golf 5 GTI's got a green, purple and had a black, though I think the kids have had the purple and black ones. I noticed them hanging on the strips while shopping ing Tesco  Also got the full set of Shell's Bond cars.
-
Jay - my Matchbox collection (except the nice ones) were destroyed by the falling brick from the top floor, or the can of paint followed by the lighter trick...
As for my hobbies, I like photography and cooking. I have a set of IO Shen Japanese cooking knives. Very cool, very sharp but a bit expensive!

they look great mate, i was never that good at painting them but yours look spot on ;) is that your gaming board? any other additions?
-
Yeah it's my board. Well it's a "Battle Mat" that mrs horney got me for my birthday, she likes to play and paint as well after I introduced her to it at Christmas. I've only painted a few but 30 troops and a tank to do in the next few months.

ahhh cool, see i never really understood how you played it is it a bit like comand and conquer? ie. differnt space marines / tanks etc have set damgage / power?
-
Yeah exactly. Each item (be it a soldier, tank or whatever) has a load of set values for Weapon skill, strength, armour etc etc. you then roll dice against tables to see the results. What you have to roll is effected by distance, if you or the target were moving, are they in cover etc etc. It's like a really complicated version of chess.

but with awesome looking marines with bolt guns and juggernauts

Is it me, or are there a bunch of people in here who are confessing to collect random tat who don't have kids (Thom excepted, IIRC)?
I do think collecting anything obsessively (hundreds of model cars in cabinets would count as obsessively to me) is more than a bit mental and points to deeper seated issues.
At least Nick plays with his little metal figures and with his wife, which is quite impressive. Maybe Wayne does play with his little vans, I don't know, but I do now have a mental image of him painstakingly lining them all up along the side of the road, then riding past them on his single speed bike, laughing at them being stuck in traffic.
I know some odd things pass as entertainment in the West Country though.... I've lived there.

I was impressed as well, she's more into the painting side as she finds it relaxing but she enjoys the games as well (but only if she wins lol).

the only hobby i have now is running my modified car club and my 2 cars, its all about cars for me now
being a typical lad, i loved cars and football, my football interest its dropping away now, qualified to level 2 fa coaching, dont pursue that anymore as i lost all confidence, was part of a sunday league team, left that, dont go on football websites either, dont watch football, dont even go to watch footbal
when i was a kid i collected matchbox toy cars, hated hot wheels, american crap! lol oh, and lego, but sold most of it on the car boot, any lego i had left over was still in my moms loft which ive now give my little girl
the matchbox cars though, i discovered white spirit in our shed when i was a kid, found a lighter, and me and my mate decided to melt them, lol, anything left over was also sold on the car boot
-
Hobbie at the moment is squash, cant get enough of it!!!
-
Gears or no gears (I thought single speed was THE thing to have - you are SUCH a fickle child) you're not denying that you've lined them up and ridden past the 'traffic'.
That's VFM right there.
-
started to get back into millatry modelling again after a few years break
also enjoy a good book on war photogrphy
-
until 7pm last night i collected Vodka bottles  now it might be Orange juice bottle s :lipsrsealed:

I love these knifes, I like the way you can see the folds in the steel, only thing i found was the steel was very brittle!

[massive_nerd]My major hobby for the last while has been the Yu Gi Oh card game. It's basically a strategy game but with cards rather than chess pieces/warhammers. I've come 2nd in the last few tournaments entered and I'm going to an international qualifier this weekend. Top 8 qualify for the next round in the UK so here's hoping I get that far [/massive_nerd]
-
I used to play yu gi oh.
The only thing I can remember now are trap cards and the dark knight car.
I think there was a red eyed black dragon in there somewhere too... And a bubonic Vermin.
My collection has to be guitars...
My hobby would be my band.
Not very interesting.
-
I used to collect Pokemon cards
Had one massi collection that I gave to my younger cousin.
Also used to collects Pogs.
Is it obvious that I'm a 1990s child?
Now I collect invoices for my MK2
-
used to collect hotwheels and keep them in the boxes but they all went missing somewhere, used to collect corgi mini's and clean them about every day, sold them in the end and £10 a piece on ebay.

Nicks Warhammer thread got me thinking, anyone treated themselves to any cool Diecasts over Christmas? I may start moving on my Hot Wheels collection in the new year, by the looks of it, the US "Redline" market has reached an all time low, and some great bargains to be had on US ebay! :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed: :embarassed:
Thom
-
That's worse than a woman describing a new pair of shoes as a bargain.
You don't need it, it is not a bargain.
This thread rivals the Warhammer thread. Both need deleting.

I used to collect tazos (from walkers crisps) I was the only person I knew who got the whole set. I ended up with 2 full sets and a few of the rarer ones I had 5/6 times so my dad sold them to adults for something like £20 each. My dad sold them all without my permission about 8 or 9 years ago, he got over £1000 for the set and kept the money, cu*t!
Also used to collect toy cars dinky, matchbox, he sold all them and kept the money as well. a lot went to the nostalgia toy museum in godshill on the isle of wight. forgot to have a look when I was there a couple of months ago to see if I recognise any of them
-
Bob, your Dad does indeed sound like quite a rare c*nt indeed.
Remember men become their fathers with the passing of time. Look out for c*nty tendencies as the years progress. HTHs.
-
turning into him is one thing I don't want to happen! he is mentaly ill so hopefull I won't. and as he has done so much to me I hopefully won't do those things to others, i don't hit women, steal, throw my toys out the pram for no reason.
the car he is driving is mine and he owes me over £30,000 probably nearer £35,000 and now doesn't talk to me and won't let my mum or sister see me so I have no chance getting my money back or seeing my family again, I could never do that to someone.
-
Sounds like you need to go over there, kick him in the nuts, take your mom and sister with you in your car, he's using.
-
I tried taking them, my sister won't leave my mum and my mum still loves my dad for some reason so won't leave him, the only reason I stayed as long as I did is because it made it easier for my mum.
it's not worth lowering myself to his level and giving him a kicking as much as I want to, as I'd get done and nothing would happen to him, everyone hates him so he'll get what's coming to him from someone else.
-

After living right in the middle of a town centre for many years and being a complete townie my only hobbies then were getting mashed.
Since moving to a lovely village on a river 18 months ago, I've started fishing again, mountain biking and bird spotting! Can't believe the difference in me but love it. Still happily use both pubs in the village too
