Title: ITG
Post by: GolfTi on 04 February 2011, 20:36
I thought this was just my imagination but no, it happened again today.

When I get behind another car (not too close - and my DRLs are off) on an open road they see the GTI badge in their mirror and just boot it, normally turbo diesel cars, sometimes standard petrol Beemers or Audis.
The diesels are the biggest giveaway as there is a sudden black cloud, no offence meant but its true.

The GTI badge must really be an icon as it is so easily recognised even back to front.

And no, I don't drive aggressively or tailgate, hence the clean licence for 25 years.

I know exactly what you mean, iconic indeed.  I get this a lot as well - usually A4 drivers or jokers in tdi Passatts who should know better to be honest!

Happens all the time and I have got used to it. Being Red, it happens more often. At least they are having fun which is a good thing. See, the GTI gives JOY.

PS: Forgive me, but what is ITG? :embarassed:

Hi Asker

GTI in the rear mirror -sorry, couldn't find the mirror/reverse text option

If anyone can tell me how to do it I'll gladly change.

Or throttle bodies. Now that would be something.

I find people carriers are the worst. I think they are over compensating.

I get that a lot too, I think you have a point. Usually at traffic lights especially on a set of lights just around the corner from my home, I'll be sat there in the left hand lane (stopped at red light), filter lane ahead, and there's always someone who's got to come up in the outside lane when there is nothing sat behind me and gun it from the lights. I just let them get on with it, calmly pull away with 'arrogant Golf GTI driver' smug grin on my face.
It made it all worthwhile last year when someone did this to me and another took his lead with them both racing off into the distance (30mph limit, coming out of a 40). I merely shook my head a little and ignored them. Next up a BMW came whizzing past me and I thought to myself 'typical BMW tosser'. Only that tosser turned out to be a couple of rozzers in an unmarked 3 series estate! Pulled the pair of 'em. I'd have given him the thumbs up but decided to keep my hands on the steering wheel!!!

I just know they want a race, as their music is blaring away with windows down followed by a very loud farting exhaust note. It's all quite funny especially when I quietly glide past them with a superior look on my face with Wagner wafting from my speakers. :smug:

I love that superior feeling! it may not be the fastest but it's the best!

It is such great a car. THE GTI is completely classless but ultimately the classiest. :smug:

Yes, it happens all the time. Last week some lunatic in a Toyota (I think) came hurtling up behind me on the A1. I pulled in and let him by, having just notice a very beefy looking Skoda Superb pulling on to the A1, which had sat back in the distance behind me and which was sporting numerous ariels.

As I pulled back out to overtake slower traffic, the Skoda quickly came up behind me and I again pulled back in. At this point the Toyota (still only some 200 yeards in front and tailgating other traffice), then undertook the car in front.

I watched with interest, doing about 70 ish (I had the wife and kids in the car). We then passed a traffic cop, tucked nicely away in a field entrance (Phew). As we approached the Huntingdon exit the blue lights on the unmarked Skoda came on it escorted the Toyota off at the exit!!

BMW's are by far the worst offenders. On the flip side, people do tend to pull in when a pair of Xenons come up behind them!
