Title: Temp sensor?
Post by: VR6_Wherry on 03 February 2011, 11:44
Am i right in thinking that mine is faulty? The temp will jump up and down every now and then from 70 - 90. I could be driving with the temp at 90 and it will then just drop to 70! Also the coolant warning light is flashing. This doesn't happen all the time. When the light isn't flashing the temp is normal!  :undecided:

As far as I know, the temp on the gauge is picked up from a different sensor. At least it is on the 16v  :undecided:

I would suggest plugging in vagcom, checking measuring blocks and seeing the actual coolant temp read by the CTS, not by the dash gauge.

sounds liek a wiring fault or the sensor is bust. do the clocks to anythign else funny at the same time? puit it on the MFA oil temp setting if its a gti and watch that one to see if it does the same

The display that shows the milage on the first digit is faulty, other then that it's fine. I've never had an issue with it since i flushed the system, i've also got all the airlocks out too...well i think i have..

Oh and it's a VR6.

yeah i mean put it on the oil temp and watch it when the coolant temp goes funny. if the oil temp also goes funny you know the issue is with the dash or dash wiring, if not then you know its the coolant temp or the coolant temp wire :)

Ahh okay, awesome. I was quoted at £11 for the sensor, do you know where abouts this is located, it's not in my Bentley manual!

it'll be one of the ones in the plastic flanges, not 100% sure which one it would be on a vr6?

Can't imagine it being too hard to find. Thanks Rubjonny :afro:
