Title: temp sender
Post by: mac456 on 02 February 2011, 11:39
should a new temp sender come with a new rubber ring?

as I fitted one on my gfs car yesterday and didn't realize there was no rubber ring on it and all the coolant came out. luckily noticed before the engine warmed up.

In the end i used the old rubber ring from the old unit.

still though waste of a whole bottle of coolant and could of damaged the engine if we didn't realize.

P.S I assume this wouldn't of effected the engine as it didn't get hot?

for now its probably a mixture of 35% g12 and 65% water

They are listed separately but most dealers do supply both at the same time as its like 20p for the o-ring!

Sounds like your local parts department are a bunch if idiots

Definitely worth kicking up a fuss   If nothing you might get the cost of your coolant back  :undecided:

you will probably need a thermostat

Toke, you need a new thermostat. They are supposed to open at 87degrees, when they get old they either open at 87 as they should but then fail to close and so the coolant gets cooler and cooler or they just open at a lower temp and the coolant never reaches temp. You just need to watch if the coolant goes over 90 then the thermostat is stuck and will likely seriously over heat and could damage the HG.

Same here, changed both items myself, was all sweet for about week and a half now it's the same old story, temp sender stopped working all togeather until one day i got pissed off with it and dipped in a cup of boiling water; it clicked a couple of times then the temp gauge moved with the ignition on?? After i put it back in it seemed to work properly for a few days?? I'm wondering whether the wires have been f**ked through being removed a couple of times.
