In auto express they said there first service cost £300 for the GTD. You should have bought the 3 year service pack for £250
You can use a VAT registered independent garage instead.

The dealer should have offered you the 3 year service option for £250. My dealer threw it in as part of the deal.

Mine was 12 months old last week so I went into the dealers to book it in for the 10k service. I had the VW service plan £250 for 3 year so while its under warranty for 3 years they may as well do it. At the prices quoted above then its a very good deal.

I also said I'm still not happy the clutch pedal pulsating (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=180522.0) (new thread) which I've talked about on other forums. He said they all do that its the dual mass flywheel. I said when I tested your GTD demo last year that didn't do it so I want it the same as that one. Oh it should have done it. I've also asked on forums if anyone elses does it and a few have said yes which will be about 20% so it not a know problem is it. He said we will check it again, bull.

For the past month I've notice after you use the read washer it dribbles down the screen for a few minutes. I know this is a common fault with the Golf but I've only hear of guys in the States with this problem, it looks like I'm the first in the UK.

I have a couple of other niggles but I won't clog this thread up.

Mine dribbles, iirc there was a thread on here. The valve fix the dealers were using to fix it in the states im told does not work

This deal was not available to me at the time of purchase? I just rang the dealership and they offerd me service plan for £345 ?

They do a two year fixed service plan for £345 with free MOT`s for life.

That sounds like a great deal if your planning on keeping the car for some time, although if they are charging £300 for first service then the prices will only go up year on year so i'd def go for that steve! I took out the 3 year plan when i got the car and i'm glad i did having read this thread!

My first annual service (July 2010) cost me under £100! £95 if I remember rightly. I don't expect the second one in July 2011 (which will presumably be a major one) to be more than £250.
And if I go to an independent VW specialist it'll be cheaper still.
I always ring round and ask the main dealer to match the best prices I've obtained elsewhere. I did this last week for the wife's Saab. It's coming up to its 4th annual service so needs a major one. I rang a couple of independent Saab specialists then rang the Saab main dealer we bought it off and who've serviced it ever since. Surprise, surprise but when I say I'll come to them if they match the independents they price match.
So I get a decent deal, get the car serviced by a Saab main dealer and they get some business too. Everyone's happy.
Surely even VW dealers aren't so stupid as to not want to do this?

I can't believe what some dealers are charging for what is essentially just an oil change and filter.

Mine was less than £100 as well from a main dealer.

Some dealers still work on the principle that you'll pay whatever as you'll have the service done with them to maintain warranty even that is no longer a requirement to keep your warranty validated

Also, when I had my Audi they were charging £95+VAT per hour for work - I can't imagine VW charge much less?  Only takes a couple of hours for them to "justify" their high costs!

PS Feel better that I got them to include the 2 years servicing with mine for free  :smug:

I wish vw had told me about the 2 year fixed deal thing for £345. My own fault I guess for not even asking how much the 2nd service was and not getting competative prices. Oh well its done now and I haven't got to worry about another service for a while.

Get some sleep in buddy.......... mines 2.5 years old mate and still doesn't always sleep through the night. Its a tiring old game mate having a baby and you don't appretiate how much time you used to have to yourself. But of course its the best thing in the world being a parent. Hope your Mrs is doing well.

p.s. Steve, seeing as your baby is being born in Wandsworth, London you can forget that Man U shirt. Its got to be chelsea all the way!
